Step into the journey of pregnancy and parenthood with confidence. Our educational programs let you connect with other parents while you learn about pregnancy, labor, birth, breastfeeding, baby care, safety, and parenting.

CenteringPregnancy is prenatal care that includes a one-on-one health check-up with extra time and attention in a group setting. CenteringPregnancy is a way for you to learn and share your experiences with other expectant parents while being involved in your own care. San Leandro Medical Center labor and delivery tour

Take a guided tour of our San Leandro Labor and Delivery Unit. See where your baby will be born and learn about all the resources available to you. One adult guest per expecting mother, no children please. Please arrive on time, if you are more than five minutes late you will need to reschedule. Note: A unit tour is included in the San Leandro Preparing for Childbirth series.

Baby and me

Weekly drop-in group facilitated by a certified lactation consultant. Talk about breastfeeding, sleeping, crying, adjusting to parenthood, and more. Healthy babies are welcome. Open to the community.

Breastfeeding

Breastfeeding offers many health benefits for you and your baby. Learn how to position your baby for optimal nursing, how to tell if your baby is getting enough milk, and ways to prevent common breastfeeding discomforts and challenges. Attend anytime at 32 to 36 weeks of pregnancy. This is a covered benefit for members. Open to the community.

Newborn care

Wouldn’t it be nice if babies came with instruction manuals? This class just might be the next best thing. In this class, we’ll teach you the information and skills you need to feel confident about caring for your newborn. We’ll cover topics such as feeding, bathing, diapering, and when to call your physician. We encourage you to take this class in your last trimester at 32-36 weeks pregnant. This is a covered benefit for members.

New moms support group

This group, facilitated by a licensed therapist, offers a wealth of support and information on adjusting to motherhood. We’ll talk about excitement and fears, baby blues, caring for your baby and yourself, returning to work, and choosing a child care provider. Healthy babies are welcome. Members only.

Childbirth preparation class

Few events are more exciting than the birth of your baby. Get prepared by learning what to expect before, during and after delivery. Practice breathing and relaxation techniques to use during labor and delivery, and understand your options for managing labor and using a birthing coach for support. Take this class in your last trimester of pregnancy at 28 to 36 weeks. Open to the community.

Introduction to prenatal yoga

Prepare your mind and body for birth and beyond by learning yoga postures, meditation, and body awareness. Class includes brief group discussion and optional chanting each week. Designed for women in their second and third trimesters. Bring your own yoga mat. Open to the community.

Meet your future pediatrician

Schedule a meeting with your baby’s future pediatrician before your baby is born. First, choose a pediatrician by visiting kp.org/mydoctor and searching for the “Pediatrics” specialty. Choose your preferred facility and a list of available providers will come up for you to review their background and expertise. Note: the pediatrician will not be officially assigned to your baby until after he or she is born. Schedule this visit anytime between 32 and 38 weeks of pregnancy. Members only.

La leche league

Meet monthly with other nursing mothers to talk about birth and your baby’s first weeks, the art of breast-feeding, overcoming breastfeeding challenges, and more. Healthy babies are welcome. Pregnant women are also invited.Information: Visit llli.org
