When to share your news
Saying the words, “I’m pregnant!” could be one of the biggest announcements of your life. But when exactly are you supposed to share the news?
Well, that’s entirely up to you. Some parents-to-be tell close friends and family right away. Some keep it a happy secret for a little while. Others shout their news from the nearest rooftop (or post it on Facebook) the minute they find out they’re expecting.
Many parents-to-be make the announcement after their first trimester, for a couple of reasons:
- When you reach your second trimester, your risk of miscarriage drops. But if you’re healthy and having a healthy pregnancy, your risk of miscarrying is low.
- Most people start to show around this time. You can only hide a baby bump for so long!
If you work, it might be a good idea to tell your boss before you start to show, and definitely before you breathe a word to even your closest co-workers. There’s no right time to announce your pregnancy. Just do what feels right to you, then sit back and enjoy all the love, attention, and good wishes that will start coming your way.
