Your pregnancy: weeks 25 to 27
Your baby
At this stage, your baby is over 13 inches and weighs almost 2 pounds. As you get closer to your due date, your baby’s hearing and sense of touch will continue to develop. Their eyes will begin to open and close, after being shut tight since way back in your first trimester.
What’s happening this week?

25 weeks pregnant
My little one’s always on the move. Where does all that energy come from? Oh, that’s right — it comes from me!
- Your baby is about the size of a papaya.
- Little nostrils are beginning to open up.
- Baby fat is filling out loose skin.

26 weeks pregnant
This week, my baby is two-thirds of the way “done.” Time flies when you’re growing a tiny human!
- Your baby is the size of a head of lettuce — and almost 14 inches long.
- Their eyes are open and can see more clearly.
- If you shine a flashlight on your belly, your baby might kick in response.

27 weeks pregnant
Was that a hiccup?! Adorable — just like everything else my little one does.
- Your baby is the size of a cauliflower.
- Brain tissue is actively developing.
- Your little one is keeping a more predictable schedule — sleeping and waking at regular times throughout the day.
Your body
You’ve had a pregnant belly for a while, but this is the stage when you’ll get a pregnant belly button. As your baby needs more and more room, your uterus will start pushing your abdomen out, and your navel will start popping out. It may look funny, but it’s harmless and temporary. Your belly button will go back to normal a few months after your baby is born.
Feeling like you can’t catch your breath? It’s just your growing uterus pressing on your diaphragm and crowding your lungs. You’ll feel better as soon as your baby settles down into your pelvis and your body starts preparing for childbirth. If you have sudden or severe shortness of breath, call your care team.
