Important mental health and substance use disorder treatment information

The first step to getting help is often the hardest. If you or a loved one needs treatment for substance use issues — or you just want more information about addiction and recovery — we’re here to help. 

There is no referral needed  — just call us if ready for help.

  • For specialty care substance use services, call us at 503-249-3434 or 1-855-632-8280, weekdays, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., to speak to a provider or schedule an appointment within 15 days for routine care.
  • Integrated primary care behavioral health service access is available for same-day/next-day care at most medical offices for urgent needs and within 10 business days for nonurgent care. Call 1-800-813-2000 (TTY 771) or schedule online.

If you or your dependent are unable to schedule a specialty care appointment within 15 days or an integrated primary care appointment within 10 business days or have difficulty finding a provider, please call us at 1-855-632-8280 during regular business hours or 1-800-813-2000 after hours. 


Emergency

If you or your dependent needs emergency care for mental health or substance use, visit the nearest emergency room or call 988 . For medical emergencies, call 911 or visit the nearest emergency room.  


Crisis

For crisis support, call our crisis line at 1-866-453-3932 or the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline 1-800-273-TALK (8255) or use the online chat available here (Spanish language and hard of hearing accessible).

Treatment model

Kaiser Permanente offers a full range of evidence-based treatment options for substance use issues. Our compassionate providers will work with you and your family to create a care plan that’s specific to your needs. Below are some addiction treatment services you may receive.

Self-care

Effective, no-cost tools and resources to help improve anxiety symptoms, sleep, substance use, mood, and more. 

Visit kp.org/selfcare for resources, including the Calm app, audio activities, articles, and more, at no cost.1,2

The Ginger app offers immediate 1-on-1 support for coping with many common challenges — from anxiety, stress, and low mood to issues with work, relationships, and more. Ginger’s highly trained emotional support coaches are ready to help 24/7. Adult Kaiser Permanente members can use the app for 90 consecutive days per year at no cost.2,3,4,5

Family tools and support

Learn about substance use disorders and recovery through our family counseling services and education group, which is open to Kaiser Permanente members and nonmembers.  

Kaiser Permanente offers a 9-week course that explores topics that encourage you to care for yourself and learn different ways to interact with the people in your life who have substance use disorders.

  • Non-Kaiser Permanente members welcome: there’s no fee for attending, and registration is not required for the class.
  • Class is every Monday for 9 weeks, from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., and is on Zoom.
