Medicare diabetes prevention program

The Medicare Diabetes Prevention Program (MDPP) is real-world training to promote healthier lifestyle habits such as long-term dietary changes, increased physical activity, and problem-solving techniques to overcome the challenges of weight loss.

MDPP services are a two-year program and a once-per-lifetime benefit, per beneficiary. This program is covered as additional preventive services and there is no coinsurance, copayment, or deductible. MDPP services are furnished by MDPP suppliers in person, during scheduled classes.

Medicare beneficiaries are eligible for MDPP services if they are pre-diabetic (according to clinical criteria such as BMI and blood test results) and haven’t been diagnosed with diabetes or end-stage renal disease.
