About me
I'm Sapna Iyer, and I am a hospitalist at Kaiser San Diego.
Biography
I was born in Bahrain, but moved to the United States with my family when I was two years old. I grew up in San Jose, California, and I attended both college and medical school at UC San Diego. I was lucky enough to spend a semester in Rome during college, studying art history and architecture. I also spent a year during medical school in New York City as a Doris Duke Clinical Research Fellow, researching bone disease in renal transplant patients at Columbia University. I returned to the Bay Area for my residency in Internal Medicine at Kaiser Permanente Oakland Medical Center, and am now happy to back in San Diego, practicing hospital medicine here. I love being a part of the Kaiser Permanente family. The commitment to patient safety, high quality of evidence-based care delivered, and team approach to caring for our members is unmatched.
About my practice
I am a hospitalist, which means I take care of patients who are admitted to the hospital. I find caring for sick patients incredibly humbling and rewarding. Being hospitalized is an immensely stressful time. I aim to help navigate this confusing experience, to coordinate care between other physicians and providers, and to be a source of support and strength for my patients and families. I am also passionate about education. I have enjoyed teaching throughout my life, and I especially love learning from my patients.
How I thrive
San Diego is the perfect place to thrive! My husband and I love going to the beach, trying out new hikes, and exploring this beautiful city. We are passionate about food and love trying new restaurants in San Diego, or a new recipe at home. I also enjoy curling up to a good book, picking up a new TV show, and traveling to new places!
