Welcome to my Web page, where I have the opportunity to present my credentials to you and share other information about myself. I hope this mini-biography will make your first visit with me a little more personable.
I grew up in a rural northern Canadian town. I attended UCLA for my chemistry degree and then my medical degree. After I finished my surgical training, I worked in private practice as a cardiac, thoracic, and vascular surgeon in the Northeast. I am glad to be back in warm and sunny Southern California, where my family is close by.
My first board certification was in general surgery. My primary area of practice is now general thoracic surgery with an emphasis on thoracic oncology, which means I perform cancer surgery on the heart, lungs, and other organs in the chest. I work closely with an excellent group of specialists in pulmonary medicine, perioperative medicine, oncology, and radiology to help me provide high-quality care for my patients. I keep abreast of new developments in my field by maintaining membership in the American College of Surgeons and the Society of Thoracic Surgeons. I am also involved with the patient care for vascular and general surgery since the Department of Surgery at the Kaiser Permanente Downey Medical Center involves three specialities.
I believe in Kaiser Permanente's philosophy of health in mind, body, and spirit and try to incorporate it in my everyday life. I exercise on the treadmill and Stairmaster, and walk my two Doberman “children.” I take golf lessons since there is always room for improvement and I can use other muscles in my body.
