Hi, my name is Farzin. I'm happy to have this chance to introduce myself to you and tell you about my work as a physician and as a physician administrator at Kaiser Permanente’s Panorama City Medical Center. I am a vitreoretinal specialist and joined Kaiser Permanente in 2001. I transitioned to department chief in 2007. I feel fortunate to be able to work at Kaiser Permanente as a clinician and as an administrator.
My father is a physician, and as far as I can remember growing up, I always wanted to be a doctor. I came to United States from Iran in 1984 and completed my undergraduate education at the University of Oklahoma in Norman. I went on to medical school at New York Medical College and did my ophthalmology residency at the University of Medicine and Dentistry in New Jersey. After completing a fellowship in vitreoretinal surgery at Tulane University Medical Center, I joined the Kaiser Permanente family in 2001.
I mainly take care of members with retinal diseases such as macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, and retinal detachment/disease. When members come to me, they are fearful of never regaining their vision, and for me to be able to use my expertise to restore their sight is a honor and a privilege. It is humbling to be able to offer a person the gift of sight. I am always in awe of members’ strength, courage, and determination.
My kids force me to live well. They are active teenagers and keep me busy. Traveling is my passion, and every year I make it a point to visit a new place with my family on my birthday. Gardening is my hobby, and I love working in my garden. I like hiking on weekends and spending time with my family.
