About me

Biography

I was born and raised in Paris, France, and spent my entire childhood there. I moved to the United States to attend college at Stanford University. I fell in love with this country and decided to pursue the rest of my education here. I studied medicine at Columbia University in New York and completed my orthopedic surgery residency in Charlotte, NC, followed by a fellowship in hand and microvascular surgery at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City. From a young age, I felt drawn to a medical career—a profession that combines service to others and scientific thinking—and at some point in my education, I discovered the absolute perfect career for me: orthopedic and hand surgery. My wife and I moved to Portland, OR, because we love the Pacific Northwest, its people, and its nature. I am a native speaker of English and French; I also speak German and Spanish.

About my practice

I am an orthopedic surgeon specializing in hand, upper-extremity, and microvascular surgery, which means I treat many conditions that affect the hand, wrist, arm, elbow, or shoulder, from broken bones to damaged nerves and chronic ailments. I am passionate about finding the best treatment for each patient and prioritize minimally invasive or less burdensome approaches even when surgery is needed. I stay up to date with new technologies and treatment guidelines to optimize healing and recovery, and I have learned to manage post-operative pain through a multifaceted and personalized approach to decrease the use of opioids while improving healing and function. I focus on performing certain hand procedures (e.g., carpal tunnel releases, trigger finger releases, Dupuytren’s surgery) using local anesthetic only to avoid general anesthesia and a trip to the operating room when possible. I chose a career at Kaiser Permanente because the organization empowers me to do what is best for each patient; specifically, there are no incentives to perform surgery when it is not necessary. I also work within a team of excellent colleagues and staff, which enables us to take care of a large population’s needs in a sustainable way.

How I thrive

As an orthopedic surgeon, I know all about the importance of physical and mental wellness for my patients and myself and have learned to cultivate my A-game in mind and body so I can stay sharp in the operating room, focus on my patients' needs in the clinic, and be caring with my loved ones at home. I recharge while hiking, backpacking, and generally being outdoors. My fitness routine varies between swimming, yoga, HIIT, and gym climbing. I practice mindfulness meditation daily, which helps me in all domains of life and has shaped how I view my profession and my service to others. I enjoy many crafts, such as ceramics, jewelry-making, and basic woodworking. I strive to stay connected with friends and sustain my relationships with loved ones.
