Where I practice
About me
I grew up exploring the forests and lakes of Wisconsin, and later completed medical school and residency at the University of Wisconsin. I moved to Oregon for fellowship training at OHSU and quickly fell in love with the Pacific Northwest. While we have the forests and lakes covered here, I still miss Wisconsin cheese curds!
Before pursuing medicine, I studied philosophy, studio art, and neuroscience in college and graduate school. My love of learning has always been central to who I am, and oncology provides an incredible opportunity to contribute to the advancement of science while staying connected to the human experience. Every day, I am humbled by the strength, courage, and wisdom of my patients—it’s an honor to walk alongside them through their care journey.
About my practice
As a medical oncologist, I focus on using medication-based therapies to care for people with cancer. I work as part of a deeply committed team of cancer care professionals, including nurses, radiation oncologists, surgeons, pharmacists, nurse practitioners, social workers, and many others. Our shared goal is to provide high-quality, compassionate care that is tailored to each person’s goals and values.
The foundation of my approach is listening. I take the time to understand what matters most to you, so we can develop an individualized plan together. For some, that may involve clinical trials or intensive treatment. For others, it may focus on symptom relief and quality of life. Whatever your priorities, I strive to treat you with dignity, respect, and as a whole person—not just a diagnosis. My pronouns are he/him/his.
Collaboration on Multidisciplinary Teams
I actively participate in regional multidisciplinary tumor boards, where I collaborate with colleagues in medical oncology, radiation oncology, surgery, pathology, and other specialties. These discussions are essential for developing personalized, evidence-based treatment plans—especially for patients with complex or rare cancers. This collaborative approach ensures that each patient receives the most comprehensive and up-to-date care possible.
Research & Clinical Trials
I am involved in multiple National Cancer Institute–supported research networks, including SWOG, the National Surgical Adjuvant Breast and Bowel Project (NSABP), the Alliance for Clinical Trials in Oncology, and NRG Oncology. As both a principal and sub-investigator, I help connect patients to clinical trials and innovative therapies.
My research interests include cancer survivorship—particularly improving long-term outcomes, minimizing side effects, and reducing the risk of recurrence. I believe in bringing research directly to the bedside, and I’m committed to helping shape a future where cancer care is more effective, precise, and humane.
How I thrive
Outside of work, I recharge by spending time in nature. I love skiing on Mt. Hood, sailing the Columbia River, rock climbing, kayaking, scuba diving, and sporting clays. I’m also a fan of Portland’s incredible food scene and am still on the hunt for the perfect cheese curds. When not outdoors, I enjoy time with friends and family, and embracing all the Pacific Northwest has to offer.
