I was born and raised in northern Utah to parents in the medical field — my mother a nurse and my father a psychologist. As a child visiting my mom in the hospital, I remember walking the halls and imagining what had happened moments before. In 1998, I left my home state for the Pacific Northwest. I had been accepted to Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) for an internal medicine residency. During my four years at OHSU, I made great friends, gained skills and knowledge, and saw firsthand how physicians can be a comforting and stabilizing force when people are faced with illness. I spent my free time taking day trips to the Oregon coast, hiking in Forest Park, and trying to keep up with my mountain-biking friends. It was at OHSU where I met my future husband. The next stop on my career path was the University of Michigan, in Ann Arbor, where I completed a cardiology fellowship. When the time came for us to settle on a place to live and start our careers, Portland was at the top of the list. I moved back in 2002 and have been in practice since that time.
I joined the team of cardiologists at Northwest Permanente in 2017. I am a general cardiologist, with a focus on echocardiography/TEE. I care for patients with a variety of conditions including acute coronary syndromes, arrhythmias, heart failure, and valvular heart disease. After practicing for many years, I have learned about the importance of communication and trust between provider and patient. Physicians enter people's lives at a time of uncertainty, loss, and illness. I do my best to listen and provide thoughtful guidance and care at those times.
My life has changed significantly since the early days of my cardiology practice. I am now married and the mother of two. Raising a family has been a challenge and a joy. Five minutes with my kids can quickly transform me from doctor to mommy. I love spending time at home and outside, exploring the Pacific Northwest. As a family, we enjoy traveling, skiing, camping, and storytelling — and we still make day trips to the beach.
