About me

I’m originally from Minnesota, where I completed both college and medical school. I come from a large, close-knit family and have fond memories of growing up immersed in the outdoors—snow, mosquitos, and all. When it came time to choose a location for my residency training, my husband and I decided it was time for a change from below-zero winters and icy windshields. That decision brought us out west, where we quickly fell in love with the Pacific Northwest and have proudly called Portland, Oregon home since 2006.

About my practice

My practice primarily focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of blood disorders and blood cancers, including leukemias and lymphomas. I appreciate the breadth and complexity of the conditions I see, particularly the opportunity to focus on high-risk but potentially curable diseases such as acute leukemia. I also have a long-standing interest in gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs), a rare cancer I’ve researched extensively and continue to manage in many of my patients.

What I love most about working in this field is the ability to guide patients through what is often one of the most challenging times in their lives, while also building strong, lasting relationships throughout treatment and beyond. I am deeply committed to ensuring that my patients not only receive evidence-based, personalized care, but also feel supported as whole individuals—not just as a diagnosis. Quality of life, empathy, and shared decision-making are central to how I practice.

Collaboration on Multidisciplinary Teams

I work closely with colleagues across a range of specialties to provide comprehensive, coordinated care. I actively participate in multidisciplinary tumor boards—such as the hematology tumor board—which allow us to develop personalized, evidence-based treatment plans informed by diverse expert perspectives. This collaborative approach ensures that every patient’s medical and supportive needs are addressed with care and precision.

Research and Clinical Trials

I am actively involved in clinical research as a sub-investigator in the National Cancer Institute’s Community Oncology Program. This role enables me to offer patients access to innovative treatments through national clinical trials. I collaborate with several major oncology research networks, including SWOG Cancer Research Network, the National Surgical Adjuvant Breast and Bowel Project (NSABP), the Alliance for Clinical Trials in Oncology, and NRG Oncology.

Professional Affiliations

I am a proud member of the American Society of Hematology (ASH) and the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO). These professional organizations keep me informed of the latest advancements in cancer research, treatment protocols, and clinical best practices, allowing me to continuously improve the care I provide.

How I thrive

Like many Portlanders, I absolutely love the outdoors. Whether it’s camping, hiking, climbing, or gardening, I find energy and peace in nature. I spend as much time as I can with my family and friends—especially with my young son, who keeps life joyful and full of surprises. My husband and I are avid food lovers and enjoy exploring Portland’s incredible restaurant scene. And in my spare time, I’ve taken on the fun challenge of learning to play the banjo.
