About me

I was born and raised in Colombia and immigrated to the United States in 2003. After completing my undergraduate studies at Portland State University, I pursued my medical education at McGill University in Canada, followed by residency and fellowship training in internal medicine and medical oncology at the University of Ottawa. I later returned to Portland with my family to join Northwest Permanente as a medical oncologist.

My academic work has focused on improving cancer care for older adults. I published research on barriers to clinical trial participation among older adults and contributed a chapter on cancer screening in older populations for the upcoming Care of the Elder textbook.

About my practice

My practice is dedicated to the care of patients with breast, gastrointestinal and skin cancer, with additional expertise in geriatric oncology. I am committed to providing patient-centered, evidence-based care tailored to each individual’s needs. For me, medicine is a calling to make a meaningful difference in the lives of people facing cancer. I strive to build trusting relationships with my patients, understand their values and priorities, and guide them in making treatment decisions that align with their personal goals and expectations. At the same time, I am open and honest about treatment implications and quality-of-life considerations, ensuring patients and families are fully supported throughout their care journey.

Collaboration on Multidisciplinary Teams

I actively participate in regional multidisciplinary tumor boards, where specialists in medical oncology, radiation oncology, surgery, pathology, and related fields collaborate to design personalized, evidence-based treatment plans. This team-based approach is especially valuable for patients with complex cancers, helping us align care with the best national practices and deliver the highest quality outcomes.

Research & Clinical Trials

I am engaged in several National Cancer Institute–supported clinical research networks, including SWOG, the National Surgical Adjuvant Breast and Bowel Project (NSABP), the Alliance for Clinical Trials in Oncology, and NRG Oncology. As sub-investigator, I connect patients to promising clinical trials and emerging therapies. My research interests focus on cancer survivorship, particularly improving long-term outcomes, minimizing treatment side effects, and reducing recurrence risks.

How I thrive

Spending quality time with my family, especially my 2 daughters, keeps me grounded and focused on what matters most. I am grateful for the unwavering support of my husband and extended family throughout my career. Staying active is also central to my well-being—our family enjoys running outdoors, hiking, skiing whenever the weather allows.
