By now, many babies are in the birthing position, with head pointing down near your pelvis. Your baby weighs about 5 to 6 pounds, is around 17.518 inches long, and is about the size of a pineapple.
If your baby is born at week 34, usually the lungs are almost fully developed so your baby can breathe on their own outside the uterus. In addition, your baby’s:
- Vernix coating on the skin is thickening.
- Amount of fine, downy hair called lanugo, is decreasing.
- Fingernails and toenails have grown out to the tips of the fingers and toes.
- Arms and legs fill out and become more chubby
While the testicles in most male babies have reached their typical place in the scrotum, some are born with undescended testicles. However, most testicles will descend into the scrotum before the baby turns 1 year old.
