About me
My father was in the military so I’ve lived in many places, mostly in the western United States but also Japan. I moved to Colorado for schooling and, like so many others, found it impossible to leave. I served in the military for 4 years to qualify for the G.I. Bill and attend college. While in the military, I worked in the health care field and found that I love to apply the sciences to the care of people. My favorite subjects in college were pharmacology, physiology, chemistry and biochemistry. Anesthesiology is the practical application of all these fields in the care of people in the peri-operative period. I chose the field of anesthesiology because it is the internal medicine doctor of the operating room. I love working in the operating room and every day is different. I have been married for more than 25 years and have 2 boys who are studying at CU Boulder.
About my practice
I listen and seek to understand my patients’ questions and concerns. I understand that surgery is a stressful experience for everyone. I feel it is an honor to help my patients get through this stressful period as safely as possible. I respect my patients as partners in maintaining their health. If possible, I tailor the anesthesia plan for the patient’s desires and needs. I work as a team with our specialists, pharmacists and others to coordinate my patients’ care. This is especially important for the peri-operative period. We have excellent departments of Anesthesiology and Surgery and I trust other Kaiser Permanente providers to take excellent care of my patients if I’m not available. I truly enjoy working with people in the hospital setting.
How I thrive
I love to ski, hike and bicycle. I’m also a car nut and am redoing and updating my 1956 Chevy Bel Air. As my wife would say, a car project is never done. As a family, we have fostered many dogs for the Dumb Friends League. Most were animals who required care after orthopedic surgery. I love to cook and do most of the cooking at home. I especially love to bake – it’s kind of like a chemistry lab in the kitchen.

Kaiser Permanente considers the following factors as it builds and maintains provider networks:
- Size and demographics of the population to be served
- The inventory of provider and facility types required to serve the population
- Practitioner-to-member ratios and geographic access standards
- Application of credentialing criteria encompassing but not limited to educational training, licensing, professional experience, board certification, and professional references
You may select a primary care provider (PCP) from family medicine, pediatrics, or internal medicine. When possible, we encourage you to choose a PCP whose office is in a Kaiser Permanente Medical Office Building. You may have a higher copayment and/or coinsurance with certain PCP providers. Please refer to your “Schedule of Benefits (Who Pays What)” for additional details. Use the Provider Affiliation dropdown to sort to Kaiser Permanente providers.
An authorization or referral may be required to access some providers in this directory. If you have questions, contact Member Services.
