About me
I was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and spent my youth and adolescence in Ann Arbor, Michigan. After enjoying winter trips to Colorado to ski with my family as a child, I've now lived in this beautiful and sunny state for more than10 years. The promise of days in the mountains on my days off inspired me to move to Colorado to complete medical school, where I was then was lucky enough to complete my residency training in internal medicine and my fellowship training in hematology and oncology. Medicine called to me as a career from a young age, as I had many interactions with wonderful physicians and therapist as a competitive figure skater in my youth. Then in school and training, I always felt drawn to blood disorders and cancers in terms of their basic science, and my passion about the field was confirmed in my training when seeing these disorders and working with the incredible patients who live with them. The field is incredibly fast moving, with new drugs approved seemingly every day, but there is nothing like helping a patient and their family through possibly the most terrifying and trying time of their life or getting to really know a patient who is on surveillance for years following their diagnosis. At the end of a day when I may have delivered bad news of an incurable cancer recurrence or may have shared with someone that they are now in remission, I have no doubt that I've chosen my correct path in life, and it warms my heart that if you ask those close to me and who have known me my whole life, they'll echo that same sentiment.
About my practice
I truly love my patients, their families and support systems and that is why I chose to work for Kaiser Permanente, where I knew I would have an adequate amount of time to spend with them in clinic, getting to know them, educate them on their condition(s), answer questions, and listen to concerns! While I see all types of blood disorders, blood cancers, and solid tumors, seeing patients with breast and gynecologic cancers who prefer a female physician, working with patients with genitourinary (bladder, kidney, prostate, testicular) cancers and brain cancers, and helping our sickle cell anemia population are some of my particular interests. Cancer is a difficult field to work in, but I do feel I maintain an optimism while remaining grounded in reality for my patients. I do love spending time in the clinic with patients, but I know that so many questions arise outside of our visits and I am always happy to field such questions or concerns via kp.org. A referral is required for my services.
How I thrive
Like most Coloradans, I cherish nature and outdoor activities the nearby mountains have to offer. I enjoy skiing, snowboarding, and hiking, or just spending time in a hammock enjoying the view. My husband and I enjoy traveling when we can, feeling passionate about experiencing new cultures, languages, landscapes, and food. Together we also are always trying out new recipes at home, and we appreciate good locally brewed beers, fine wine, and good coffee. Our 2 black labs, Gus and Ella, and our little cat with huge personality, Tibby, keep us on our toes yet keep us grounded in unconditional love and snuggles!
