Where I practice
About me
I was born in Mexico and came to the United States at age 11, growing up in Los Angeles. I have also lived in the San Francisco Bay Area and spent a year in Ithaca, New York, attending a meditation retreat. I earned my undergraduate degree from the University of California, Berkeley, and went on to teach elementary school in Los Angeles for eight years.
My experience as a teacher deepened my understanding of how mental health impacts both families and student success, which led me to become a psychotherapist. I moved to Colorado in 2005 to complete my graduate studies in contemplative psychotherapy at Naropa University.
The accomplishment I am most proud of is adopting my son and growing as a parent each day. In my work, I value creating a compassionate space where patients can connect with their strengths and experience growth and healing.
I have experience working with children, teens, and groups. My clinical interests include anxiety, depression, grief and loss, mood disorders, OCD, trauma, parenting, and chronic conditions. I use evidence-based approaches such as cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, eye movement desensitization and reprocessing, and emotionally focused therapy.
About my practice
I work on the Kaiser Permanente Colorado complex pediatric therapy team, supporting children and adolescents with emotional, behavioral, and mental health needs that affect daily life. I provide diagnostic and psychosocial assessments and create individualized treatment plans based on each child’s strengths, needs, and goals.
I use evidence-based care and standardized tools to track progress and adjust treatment as needed. I collaborate closely with care teams, including primary care, psychiatry, behavioral health, schools, and crisis services, to support coordinated, family-centered care. My goal is to help young people feel understood, supported, and confident as they build skills for lasting well-being.
How I thrive
My work as a therapist is deeply meaningful and can be emotionally demanding, so I prioritize daily meditation to stay grounded, present, and responsive to my patients. I also recharge by spending time outdoors hiking, camping, skiing, and mountain biking.
I enjoy exploring different cuisines, especially Indian food, and cooking traditional Mexican dishes while continuing to learn from my family. I value staying connected with friends and family through shared meals, pickleball, and travel.
In my free time, I enjoy playing music and am learning piano and several instruments. I also discovered a love for gardening, which I find calming and rewarding, and I enjoy relaxing in my garden surrounded by my favorite flowers, especially dahlias. I also stay busy breeding and caring for a variety of exotic finches.
