About me

I was born in Mexico and came to the U.S. when I was 11 years old; I grew up in Los Angeles. After I completed my undergraduate studies, I taught elementary school for 8 wonderful years for Los Angeles Unified Schools. As a teacher, I came to see the important role mental health plays in families and student success, so I decided to become a psychotherapist. I came to Colorado in 2005 to complete my graduate studies in Contemplative Psychotherapy at Naropa University in Boulder. The accomplishment I am proudest of is adopting my son and learning how to be the best parent I can be day by day. The most rewarding part of being a psychotherapist is being able to hold the space for my patients to experience the most sane and compassionate aspects of themselves.

About my practice

Populations: Adult, Child, Family, Group, Seniors, Teens, and Couples. Specialties: ADD/ADHD, Anxiety, Bipolar, Depression, Grief and Loss, Mood Disorders, OCD, Parenting, Personality Disorders, PTSD, Schizophrenia, Substance Abuse, Transgender, Trauma, and Other Chronic Conditions. Interventions: CBT, DBT, EMDR, and EFT. My previous work as a school teacher allowed me to see how parenting and various environmental factors (trauma, poverty, violence) can impact a child’s mental health and their ability to learn and thrive. For this reason, I became interested in working with families, couples, children, teens and LGBT. My work with the people I serve is primarily informed by attachment theory. When children experience their parents as a “secure base” from which they venture out to explore and experience the world, they are more likely to expand their interests and inquisitiveness and make healthier choices. At the same time, when children experience their parents as a “safe haven” to return to for support and protection, children become even more emboldened to meet life’s challenges. Attachment theory also informs the way I communicate with my patients by being the “secure base” that allows for safe exploration of the challenges they face. If my patients become overwhelmed I am able to meet them where they are by being the “safe haven” that allows them to reconnect with their inner strengths. Our team is composed of therapists who have a wide range of areas of expertise allowing for deeper understanding and conceptualization of challenging cases. I am constantly learning from our team of experts. I believe people deserve to live an authentic and fulfilling life. As a therapist, I strive to create a safe environment in which clients can explore their life struggles and figure out how they can reconnect with their authentic self. I also value the importance of establishing a genuine, non-judgmental relationship as the basis for change and to provide people with skills to be able to find their own solutions to new problems. People I have worked with often tell me that the practice of learning to pay close attention to their thoughts purposefully and non-judgmentally, allowed them to see life experiences as being more workable.

How I thrive

My work as a therapist is very fulfilling and emotionally demanding. For that reason, my daily meditation practice provides me with the self-care I need to continue to be available, responsive, and engaged with my patients. I also stay connected to the rejuvenating effects of the outdoors by hiking, camping, skiing, and mountain biking. Recently, my son and I took fly-fishing lessons. I enjoy all kinds of ethnic foods; especially Indian. In terms of my cooking skills, I like to cook traditional Mexican food but I continue to learn the fine art of seasoning from my sisters who are experts at it.

Pueblo DSNP members must choose a Primary Care Physician who is located within a KP Medical Office Building. Please refer to the Medicare print directory for Southern Colorado for a full list of these providers.

To find:

  • Kaiser Permanente medical office providers’ hours, search our facility directory
  • Affiliated providers’ office hours or languages spoken by front office staff, call their office directly
  • Providers in your plan or accepting new patients, call 303-338-4545 or 1-800-218-1059 (TTY 711), Monday through Friday, 6 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Information in this online directory is updated periodically and applies to commercial plans underwritten by Kaiser Foundation Health Plan of Colorado. The availability of physicians, hospitals, providers, and services may change. To verify whether a provider accepts Kaiser Permanente plans, contact the provider directly. Current provider information is available at kp.org/locations. This information is updated within 72 business hours of receipt from providers. Kaiser Permanente Colorado attempts to ensure the online directory contains up-to-date information. The printed directory is current as of the date of publication.

To report any inaccuracies in the directory or to file a complaint regarding your experience with a provider, contact Member Services at 1-800-632-9700 (TTY 711), Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., or visit kp.org/memberservices.

Medicare Members: To request a hard copy of Kaiser Permanente’s provider directory, please call our Member Services department at 1-800-476-2167, seven days a week, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Kaiser Permanente will mail a hard copy of the provider directory to you within three (3) business days of your request. Kaiser Permanente may ask whether your request for a hard copy is a one-time request or if you are requesting to receive the provider directory in hard copy permanently.

If you request it, your request for hard copies of the provider directory remains until you leave Kaiser Permanente or request that hard copies be discontinued.

Kaiser Permanente considers the following factors as it builds and maintains provider networks:

  • Size and demographics of the population to be served
  • The inventory of provider and facility types required to serve the population
  • Practitioner-to-member ratios and geographic access standards
  • Application of credentialing criteria encompassing but not limited to educational training, licensing, professional experience, board certification, and professional references

You may select a primary care provider (PCP) from family medicine, pediatrics, or internal medicine. When possible, we encourage you to choose a PCP whose office is in a Kaiser Permanente Medical Office Building. You may have a higher copayment and/or coinsurance with certain PCP providers. Please refer to your “Schedule of Benefits (Who Pays What)” for additional details. Use the Provider Affiliation dropdown to sort to Kaiser Permanente providers.

An authorization or referral may be required to access some providers in this directory. If you have questions, contact Member Services.
