About me

I'm from Wichita, Kansas. I grew up spending time with my grandparents in their Manitou home. I'm married to another Kaiser Permanente anesthesiologist with two boys. We have lots of pets (German Shepherd, beagle, tarantula, African Gray parrot, geckos and fish). I had the unique experience of having cancer at the age of 10. Fourteen surgeries later, here I am practicing the art of anesthesiology—the perfect blend of physiology, pharmacology and technology. Along the way I've been a mechanic, an ICU RN, and a student of nurse anesthesia at the University of Kansas Medical Center. I then completed medical school at CU, internship and residency in Arizona, followed by a Pain Management Fellowship at Loma Linda University Medical Center, where I met my wife. I love helping people like those who cared for me when I was a patient.

About my practice

My life experiences as a patient directed me to be a physician and my love for physiology, pharmacology and technology directed me toward anesthesiology. I like to apply what I learned in my Pain Management Fellowship in the acute care setting. We have a very rewarding experience as a team in working with and for our patients to help reduce their anxieties and to provide the safest care possible. Kaiser Permanente gives me the opportunity to use the most advanced techniques. Electronic records make a huge impact on patient safety and efficiency. I love the diversity of the patient population that I have at Saint Joseph Hospital and the Franklin Medical Offices. I try to keep my patient interactions light-hearted as appropriate. I enjoy caring for little ones, elderly patients and everyone in between. Maximizing pain control is very important to me. I practice the Golden Rule and treat my patients as I would wish to be treated. I only ask that my patients follow my simple request: "We cannot read your mind, so please use your words for what we can do for you and we will do our best to spoil you.”

How I thrive

I enjoy various things outside of work—most involve my family. My eldest son and I achieved our Master Scuba Diver certification and we have traveled as a family to many places (I love sharks and barracudas). My youngest son has taken up golf so my wife and I are taking lessons and trying to keep the frustration to a dull roar! I build my own bicycles and ride them on organized rides like the 120-mile Triple Bypass (Evergreen to Avon in one day), Elephant Rock and Tour of the Moon for charity. I enjoy skeet shooting as well. All of these things help reduce the stress associated with my type of work.

To find:

  • Kaiser Permanente medical office providers’ hours, search our facility directory
  • Affiliated providers’ office hours or languages spoken by front office staff, call their office directly
  • Providers in your plan or accepting new patients, call 1-303-338-4545 or 1-800-218-1059 (TTY 711), Monday through Friday, 6 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Information in this online directory is updated periodically and applies to commercial plans underwritten by Kaiser Foundation Health Plan of Colorado. The availability of physicians, hospitals, providers, and services may change. To verify whether a provider accepts Kaiser Permanente plans, contact the provider directly. Current provider information is available at kp.org/locations. This information is updated within 72 business hours of receipt from providers. Kaiser Permanente Colorado attempts to ensure the online directory contains up-to-date information. The printed directory is current as of the date of publication.

Kaiser Permanente may ask whether your request for a hard copy is a one-time request or if you are requesting to receive the provider directory in hard copy permanently.

If you request it, your request for hard copies of the provider directory remains until you leave Kaiser Permanente or request that hard copies be discontinued.

Kaiser Permanente considers the following factors as it builds and maintains provider networks:

  • Size and demographics of the population to be served
  • The inventory of provider and facility types required to serve the population
  • Practitioner-to-member ratios and geographic access standards
  • Application of credentialing criteria encompassing but not limited to educational training, licensing, professional experience, board certification, and professional references

You may select a primary care provider (PCP) from family medicine, pediatrics, or internal medicine. When possible, we encourage you to choose a PCP whose office is in a Kaiser Permanente Medical Office Building. You may have a higher copayment and/or coinsurance with certain PCP providers. Please refer to your “Schedule of Benefits (Who Pays What)” for additional details. Use the Provider Affiliation dropdown to sort to Kaiser Permanente providers.

An authorization or referral may be required to access some providers in this directory. If you have questions, contact Member Services.
