About me

I grew up in Los Angeles. My parents were born in Colombia and moved to the United States in the 1960s. My father is a retired surgeon. After college in Los Angeles, I moved to Denver in 1996 to go to CU for medical school (class of 2000). I later went to U.T. Southwestern Medical Center/Parkland Hospital in Dallas to do my anesthesiology training. I met my wife in Dallas, and we moved to Denver together in 2006. I have been working in Denver as an anesthesiologist ever since then. I love my profession as an anesthesiologist and enjoy going to work.

About my practice

Anesthesiology in an amazing science and it has been an extremely rewarding profession. Anesthesia is extremely safe statistically which by itself should be reassuring for patients. However, being anxious prior to surgery is normal; and sometimes what makes people anxious is the unknown. There are many concerns and questions that patients may have when they have an upcoming anesthetic and surgery. People often don't understand how the anesthesia medications work and are metabolized by the body; they are concerned about how the entire process will affect them; and they are worried about the pain and the recovery. It is normal to have these feelings. For the vast majority of elective surgery situations, it is safe. I am confident that I will get a patient through their surgery and wake them up safely and without a complication. The anesthesiology improvements that I have seen over the last few years have been one of the most rewarding aspects of my profession. Advances in anesthesia continue, and I am committed to keeping up with the latest improvement initiatives and applying them to my practice to improve patient safety and outcomes.

How I thrive

Outside of work, I like to spend my free time with my wife and kids. As far as sports and staying active, I enjoy jogging, tennis, snowboarding, and weightlifting.

Information in this online directory is updated periodically and applies to commercial plans underwritten by Kaiser Foundation Health Plan of Colorado. The availability of physicians, hospitals, providers, and services may change. To verify whether a provider accepts Kaiser Permanente plans, contact the provider directly. Current provider information is available at kp.org/locations. This information is updated within 72 business hours of receipt from providers. Kaiser Permanente Colorado attempts to ensure the online directory contains up-to-date information. The printed directory is current as of the date of publication.

If you request it, your request for hard copies of the provider directory remains until you leave Kaiser Permanente or request that hard copies be discontinued.

Kaiser Permanente considers the following factors as it builds and maintains provider networks:

  • Size and demographics of the population to be served
  • The inventory of provider and facility types required to serve the population
  • Practitioner-to-member ratios and geographic access standards
  • Application of credentialing criteria encompassing but not limited to educational training, licensing, professional experience, board certification, and professional references

You may select a primary care provider (PCP) from family medicine, pediatrics, or internal medicine. When possible, we encourage you to choose a PCP whose office is in a Kaiser Permanente Medical Office Building. You may have a higher copayment and/or coinsurance with certain PCP providers. Please refer to your “Schedule of Benefits (Who Pays What)” for additional details. Use the Provider Affiliation dropdown to sort to Kaiser Permanente providers.

An authorization or referral may be required to access some providers in this directory. If you have questions, contact Member Services.
