Where I practice
About me
I was born in Monterrey, Mexico, and began my academic journey studying literature before discovering my passion for medicine. I completed my specialty training at the Texas Medical Center in Houston, where I developed a deep appreciation for oncology. I fell in love with this field because it offers the profound privilege of being part of my patients’ lives and the responsibility of guiding them through their cancer treatment journey with compassion and care.
About my practice
I truly believe cancer treatment must be personalized to each individual. Listening, understanding, and engaging in open communication are essential to developing the best treatment strategies. I strive every day to connect with my patients so that together we can make informed, collaborative decisions tailored to their unique circumstances and goals.
My Cancer Subspecialty Focus
My cancer subspecialty focus includes cancers of the prostate, bladder, and ureter, kidney, lymphoma and leukemia, lung, breast, brain, colorectal, and gastrointestinal malignancies, as well as benign and malignant blood disorders. I also have a special interest in LGBTQ+ and gender-affirming care, ensuring inclusive, equitable, and compassionate treatment for all patients.
Collaboration on Multidisciplinary Teams
I work closely with multidisciplinary teams composed of experts in medical oncology, hematology, radiation oncology, surgery, pathology, and other specialties. These collaborations allow us to design personalized, evidence-based treatment plans that reflect national best practices and provide coordinated, high-quality care across every stage of diagnosis and treatment.
Research & Clinical Trials Involvement
I participate in several National Cancer Institute–supported research networks, including the SWOG Cancer Research Network, National Surgical Adjuvant Breast and Bowel Project (NSABP), Alliance for Clinical Trials in Oncology, and NRG Oncology. As a sub-investigator on multiple clinical trials, I am committed to advancing cancer care through innovative research and improving patient access to promising new therapies within Kaiser Permanente.
I have continued to contribute to cancer research and was honored to receive a Certificate of Appreciation from the National Cancer Institute for enrolling patients in clinical trials. I am board certified in Internal Medicine, Medical Oncology, and Hematology, and am a proud member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) and the American Society of Hematology (ASH).
How I thrive
My family is my greatest joy. I also have a deep love for history, science, philosophy, and literature, and enjoy learning about different languages and cultures. Living in Colorado allows me to embrace the outdoors. I love hiking, mountain biking, and skiing in the beautiful mountains. I also find peace and balance through cooking, yoga, meditation, and bonsai growing.
