About me

I am a Denver native who followed a nontraditional path to become a physician. My hematology/oncology interest dates to chemistry graduate school where my thesis research was anticancer natural product synthesis. Concurrently, I had someone close to me diagnosed with Hodgkin lymphoma, bringing a life-threatening diagnosis and difficult treatment into my life for the first time. The experience taught me about the challenges and rewards of supporting a person with cancer. Fortunately, the therapy was effective and resulted in remission. The strength, patience, and perseverance that I witnessed were remarkable and changed my outlook on what it means to be a patient on chemotherapy. After completing training, I worked in the pharmaceutical industry for a decade as a drug discovery scientist, focusing primarily on metabolic diseases as well as oncology projects. During this time, my confidant had a recurrence which carried a dire prognosis. A second treatment was also successful but was complicated by significant side effects. The experience taught me about the stresses of undergoing cancer treatment as a busy professional as well as the impact of side effects. Ultimately, my experiences led me to decide to make a career change to medicine and become an oncologist. I started practicing medicine in 2018 in California and moved back to Colorado to help my family after my father passed away from prostate cancer. I feel privileged to work with at Kaiser Permanente to provide high-quality, integrated health care to my patients.

About my practice

My professional mission is to provide advanced cancer care including immunotherapy, targeted therapies, chemoimmunotherapy, chemotherapy, and access to clinical trials. These treatments are delivered in a multidisciplinary setting with other specialties like surgical oncology, radiation oncology, and interventional radiology. I have strong interests in multiple disease areas including gastrointestinal malignancy, genitourinary malignancy, lymphoma, neuroendocrine tumors, lung cancer, gynecologic malignancy, and breast cancer. My care philosophy has been shaped by my personal experiences with the cancer journeys of close relatives, friends, and patients that has led me to be committed to providing compassionate individualized care. I like working at Kaiser Permanente because of the patient-centered doctors who are drawn to work here. I would trust the care of my family members to any of my colleagues.

How I thrive

I thrive in a challenging collegial professional atmosphere where high-quality evidence-based patient care is delivered in a compassionate manner. It also helps to have work life balance so that I can exercise, spend time with family and pets, and pursue hobbies. I enjoy hiking with our dogs, making live edge tables, and sea kayaking.
