About me
I grew up in Maryland, the oldest of four children, and the daughter of a research biochemist and a stay-at-home mother who read medical journals out of interest. Three of us kids became interested in medicine after my brother was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at age 14. A few years later, I too was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. I adore children, so pediatrics was a natural fit for me. I worked at summer camps for diabetic children in the U.S. and Chile during my residency training, sharing my experience of living with a chronic medical condition. And now that I am a parent, I find joy in supporting and celebrating families as children grow and develop from birth into adulthood. I was honored to be recognized as a 5280 Magazine Top Doctor in 2017 and 2018.
I moved to Colorado in 1994, after medical training in Baltimore and a year working in California and traveling the world. I first got to know Colorado as a child. My parents put us kids on the Greyhound bus in Baltimore, and my grandparents greeted us three long days and nights later in Montrose, Colorado. We spent the summers in paradise on their farm. We all decided we would move to Colorado when we grew up, and here we are! My sister is also a pediatrician at Kaiser Permanente (Dr. Shellie Sasscer at the Smoky Hill Medical Offices). Colorado is such a wonderful place to raise active children, and my young twin boys love riding their bikes, hiking, Nordic skiing, dancing, and long road trips with our three dogs.
About my practice
Pediatrics is all about preventive medicine. We focus on healthy eating, regular exercise, time spent outdoors, wise use of technology, getting the most out of school, healthy communication skills, and emotional strength and resilience. We understand that parents prioritize their children’s health over most anything else, and we work in partnership with parents to keep the family healthy. I value the long-term relationship with my patients, and will always give them the time and attention that they require, when they are sick and when they are well.
Kaiser Permanente allows me to stay focused on clinical patient care, and supports me in my practice of evidence-based medicine. I work at the Skyline Medical Offices downtown, with a close group of pediatricians, a physician assistant and a wonderful group of nurses. We value continuity of care, and our goal is to be available to our own patients at all times, for well child exams and acute illness visits. I have a special interest in LGBTQ+ care and gender affirming care. Children and their parents know that they can come to us with any questions or concerns, whether in an office visit, by chat or email, or by phone. I look forward to meeting you!
How I thrive
When I’m not in the office, I prefer to be outdoors. I am a devoted reader of all kinds of books, and love art in every form. I love talking with people and listening to their stories and ideas. Raising children is a challenging, fantastic adventure that keeps me young and striving to make the world a better place.
