Where I practice
Originally from Albuquerque, New Mexico, I came to Denver after finishing my pediatric residency at the University of Wisconsin in Madison. My wife and I now enjoy raising our children in the capital of the Rocky Mountains! Raising a family provides a unique opportunity to reflect on my practice of medicine and it has made me a better doctor. Likewise, my work experiences make me a better husband and father. The field of pediatric hospital medicine has provided an incredible opportunity to pursue an exciting and fulfilling career doing what I love – providing care to sick children and guidance and support to their families in times of need.
About my practice
The focus of my career is care of the hospitalized child, including emergency, urgent care, newborn and pediatric hospital medicine. I am a strong advocate of preventive medicine and maintaining wellness. In times of illness, tests, studies and procedures may be necessary to diagnose or treat illness. I believe in being a thoughtful minimalist. I am in favor of ordering tests on a patient only when the child will benefit from the results. I listen and seek to understand my patients’ and their families’ questions and concerns, so we can make a treatment plan that meets their needs.
In addition to my clinical work, I am the regional specialty chief of Pediatric Hospital Medicine for Kaiser Permanente Colorado and medical director for Kaiser Permanente’s CERP Program (Clinic Emergency Readiness Program for Pediatrics). I enjoy each of these roles individually and find they strengthen my clinical practice. CERP is especially important to me, as it provides an opportunity to help educate Kaiser Permanente medical teams across Colorado to positively impact regional care of sick children.
How I thrive
I thrive by spending quality time with my family and enjoying our children as they grow and develop.
