Refill prescriptions FAQs

Here you'll find helpful tips, details, and answers to common questions about how to get your prescriptions refilled.

If there are missing or outdated prescriptions on your medication list in the kp.org Pharmacy, call or email your doctor’s office to request that your medication list be updated.

Your prescription may not yet be eligible to be refilled. Go to your medication list and check the prescription details to see when it was last ordered and when it will become eligible to refill. If you have run out of a prescription and want to refill it before the date when it becomes eligible to refill, contact the pharmacy.

Our system requires a credit card number to process the order. There won’t be any charges if you don’t have a pharmacy copayment.

If you want to use the kp.org or order refills through the KP app, you will need to use our Act for a Family Member feature. Through Act for a Family Member, caregivers are granted permission to use certain other kp.org services on behalf of Kaiser Permanente members they're caring for, including managing prescriptions.

To set it up, go to Act for a Family Member and add a person to your family list. We will need to verify your identity and confirm your eligibility. Once that process has been completed, you will be able to order medications for the family member you have added. To learn more, visit our Help with Act for a Family Member page.

If you do not want to set up Act for a Family Member but still want to order a prescription refill for a family member, you can use Order by Rx number, which enables you to order medications using your family member's Medical Record Number (MRN) and the Rx number on the prescription label.

For information on how to dispose of old medications, see our safe drug disposal page.. Options include drop-kiosks at Kaiser Permanente locations and pre-addressed mailers.
