About me
I’ve practiced with Kaiser Permanente for more than 30 years and am proud of the care I have given to thousands of our Southern California members.
Biography
I was born in Michigan but grew up in Westfield, New Jersey, which is just outside of New York City, and I’ll probably always be an Easterner at heart. I graduated from Duke University, as did both my parents, and basketball is in our blood. I returned to Michigan to attend University of Michigan Ann Arbor for both medical school and my residency, so football is a close second. I started with Kaiser Permanente’s West Los Angeles Medical Center in 1979 and then relocated to Panorama City Medical Center in 1983 specifically to plan the Woodland Hills Medical Center, which we opened with pride in April 1986. I served as chief of ob-gyn for Kaiser Permanente’s Woodland Hills Medical Center for 12 years. In 1997, I took a one-year fellowship in pelvic and gynecology-oncology surgery at Kaiser Permanente’s Los Angeles Medical Center. My wife is an attorney. Kaiser Permanente midwives delivered our three children. Our two daughters are UC Santa Barbara graduates. Our son, a Notre Dame High School grad, is an artist and musician. We live, play, and ski with passion
About my practice
The Ob-Gyn Department at Woodland Hills Medical Center is a family and a team. We support, complement, educate, help, and care about each other, which allows us to do the same for our members. This translates, we think, to excellent care. The physicians on our team are general ob-gyns as well as experts in one or more aspects in the field. I serve as the pelvic fellow, which means I manage and supervise care of patients who have gynecologic malignancies and premalignant or surgically complicated nonmalignant conditions. This includes triaging and arranging care when needed by our gynecologic oncologists.
How I thrive
Paraphrasing Bob Dylan, who said: “Anyone not busy being born is busy dying,” I believe that to thrive, you must work hard, play hard, and love the life you have and the people you share it with. To that end, I ski, bike, play basketball and tennis, try to read the editorial page of the newspaper every day, support any and every physical or intellectual activity my family becomes interested in, no matter how foreign to me, and try to look at the stars in a different way every night when I walk my dog. I love Elmore Leonard, Robert Frost, Scott Turow, Duke Ellington, Mose Allison, Jackson Browne, and Jack Johnson.
