About me
Welcome to my Web page. As a pediatric hematologist/oncologist, I care for children who are affected by blood diseases or cancer. When you choose a subspecialist in this field, it is very important that you feel comfortable with that physician, and I hope this page will help you to get to know me.
Biography
I grew up in the Orange County area and attended medical school at UCLA. I completed my pediatric residency at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center. During my residency, I developed a special interest in children's oncology from special bonds I made with oncology patients and their families. I also traveled to Pakistan as part of a medical team to care for chronically ill children who have debilitating thalassemia (a hereditary blood disorder) in villages that have limited access to care. Due to personal drive and a commitment to improving care and access for children with cancer and blood disease, I embarked on fellowship in at Children's Hospital Los Angeles and Children's Hospital Oakland. Since then, I have become a mother of three and have settled in Southern California. Over time, I have had a great deal of experience working in many academic centers that have participated in the Children's Oncology Group, an international organization dedicated to improving the care of children with cancer.
About my practice
My practice offers care delivered by a medical team that includes an oncology nursing staff, chemotherapy pharmacists, child-life specialist, social workers, art therapists, clinical research assistants, and administrative staff. Patients who don't need to be hospitalized will receive their care from members of this team. Our in-hospital services also include an experienced oncology nursing staff and support from pediatricians who specialize in hospital care. I have had many Spanish-speaking members over the years and have developed moderate Spanish-language skills; however, Kaiser Permanente has language translators readily available at its medical centers and medical office buildings.
How I thrive
I enjoy working out at the gym and taking cardio and strength classes that are combined with dance workouts. I also have a fond interest in tennis and playing the sitar, an Indian string instrument. From a young age, I have had a passion for painting and visiting international museums to appreciate art and culture. I also yearn to travel the world to meet people of various backgrounds and ethnicities.
