About me
Hello, and welcome to my Web page! I am proud to be an adolescent medicine physician in the Teen Health Center, located within the Department of Pediatrics at Panorama City Medical Center. I am passionate about providing comprehensive and compassionate care for all of our adolescent members.
Biography
I am originally from Kansas City but have enjoyed living in many other places, including New England, Colorado, and Northern California. I come from a large family and was inspired to become a pediatrician while growing up as a proud big sister to 3 younger brothers and many younger cousins. I completed my pediatric residency and chief residency at the UC San Francisco program at Children’s Hospital Central California, and my 3-year adolescent medicine fellowship at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. I am board certified through the American Board of Pediatrics in both pediatrics and adolescent medicine. I am a past president of the Southern California chapter of the Society for Adolescent Health and Medicine. I have had the great pleasure of speaking to audiences across the US and internationally on the subject of adolescent medicine, and I find mentoring medical residents and students to be incredibly rewarding.
About my practice
At the Teen Health Center, we provide both primary and consultative medical care to adolescents between the ages of 12 to 17. We have a multidisciplinary team that consists of myself (a pediatrician who specializes in adolescent medicine), a social worker/counselor, a health educator, a nutritionist, and nurses. As a team, we strive to provide exceptional, innovative, and inclusive care to our members by being mindful of the complex physical, behavioral, and emotional needs of adolescents, using a biopsychosocial approach to care and by thoroughly and thoughtfully advocating for our members and their families. Preventive care is the heart of my practice, including early identification of high-risk behaviors, providing guidance to encourage the development of health-promoting behaviors while discouraging health-damaging behaviors that frequently originate during adolescence, and empowering our teen members to continue to make choices that are beneficial to their health in the future. We support our adolescent members as they transition into adulthood and assume responsibility for their own healthcare.
How I thrive
I truly believe that a well-balanced life is essential in order to bring positive energy and a sense of joy to our daily lives. I have completed 5 marathons and hope to run many more. My family and I love to explore our beautiful state of California, always searching for a new park to hike, bike, or swim through. I take great pleasure in gardening with my kids, visiting local farmers markets, centering myself through yoga, and soaking in the captivating beauty of our Southern California sunsets. I volunteer with a number of programs in the Hollywood and San Fernando Valley areas that provide healthcare for medically underserved high-risk youth. I have also cultivated a significant wanderlust and very much enjoy traveling internationally to experience life in cultures outside of my own “comfort zone.” I look forward to traveling more with my husband, daughter, and son as my kids grow older in hopes of inspiring a love of adventure in them as well!
