Where I practice
Hello, and welcome to my Web page! I am proud to be an adolescent medicine specialist at the Teen Clinic in the Panorama City Medical Center. Prior to joining the Kaiser Permanente team in 2012, I practiced at Children's Hospital Los Angeles in a variety of clinical settings, and I am comfortable caring for the full spectrum of teen patients. I am passionate about providing comprehensive and compassionate care for all members.
I am originally from Kansas City but have also enjoyed living in many other places, including New England, Colorado, and Northern California. I come from a large family and was inspired to become a pediatrician while growing up as a proud big sister to three younger brothers and with many younger cousins. I completed my pediatric residency at the UC San Francisco program at Children's Hospital Central California, and my 3-year adolescent medicine fellowship at Children's Hospital Los Angeles. I am board certified through the American Board of Pediatrics in both pediatrics and adolescent medicine. I am a past president of the Southern California chapter of the Society for Adolescent Health and Medicine. I have had the great pleasure of speaking to audiences across the US and internationally on the subject of adolescent medicine, and I enjoy mentoring medical residents and students in the field.
About my practice
At the Teen Health Center, we provide both primary and consultative medical care to adolescents age 12 to 17. We have a multidisciplinary team that consists of two pediatricians who specialize in adolescent medicine, a health educator, a social worker, and two nurses. This team strives to be thorough and thoughtful advocates for members and their families. We use a bio-psychosocial approach of comprehensive care in an atmosphere of understanding and respect for the complex physical, behavioral, and emotional needs of our young adult members. Preventive care is a key part of our practice, and it includes early identification of high-risk behaviors and providing guidance about health-promoting or -damaging behaviors that often are initiated during adolescence, with a goal of avoiding risky behaviors in the future. We support our adolescent members as they transition into adulthood and assume responsibility for their own health care.
How I thrive
I truly believe that a well-balanced life is essential in order to bring positive energy and a sense of joy to our daily lives. I have completed 5 marathons and hope to run many more. I take pleasure in gardening at home and also frequently visit local farmers markets to buy the vegetables and fruits that make up a healthy diet. My husband and I love to explore our beautiful state through hiking and camping adventures as well as yoga/meditation retreats. I volunteer with a number of programs in the Hollywood and San Fernando Valley areas that provide health care for medically underserved high-risk youth. I have also developed a significant wanderlust and greatly enjoy traveling internationally to experience life in cultures outside of our own "comfort zone." I have been to a number of countries outside of the US, including Mongolia, Indonesia, Australia, and several European countries, and I hope to experience many more in the years to come!
