Get care and support following the Southern California wildfires

Last updated: February 20, 2025

Kaiser Permanente is committed to the safety of our members, patients, staff, and community. We are working to support those affected by the fires in Los Angeles County with care and resources as the community recovers from this ongoing crisis. All Kaiser Permanente facilities in Southern California are open.

Care and prescriptions

We’re working to make sure you, as a member, get the information, support, and care you need to support your physical and mental health. You can access most of your usual timely, convenient care options — from 24/7 phone and video appointments to quick online e-visits, urgent care, and other appointments.

Care access

If you’re a Kaiser Permanente member who has been displaced by the wildfires and can’t access Kaiser Permanente services, you can get covered services from out-of-network providers for the usual cost of your care. To request reimbursement for non–Kaiser Permanente care, sign in to your kp.org account and submit a claim online.

Mental health support

For people who have lost homes, been evacuated, or had fires nearby, the emotional effects can be traumatic. People who already have mental health conditions are susceptible to increased symptoms due to the unstable environment.

Even if you don’t live in an area affected by wildfires, it’s possible to feel anxious or upset when hearing the devastating stories of people experiencing loss from fires. We’re here for the mental health and wellness support you need. We also offer a variety of webcasts to help support your mental health during this crisis.

Prescriptions

If you’ve been displaced and are not near a Kaiser Permanente pharmacy, you can fill your prescription at any local retail pharmacy near you. To have your prescription transferred, give the outside pharmacy your Kaiser Permanente member ID card or medical record number. Also give them the number to our call center, 1-866-385-2644, where they can complete the transfer. Members in Southern California may also temporarily fill their prescriptions at any non-Kaiser Permanente pharmacy.

To get medications mailed to your permanent or temporary address, order your refills and prescriptions online or call our Southern California mail-order pharmacy at 1-866-206-2983. Standard shipping is always provided at no cost. Please note, it may take 3 to 5 days to deliver your prescriptions by mail.

For more help, you can call Member Services about:

  • Your coverage
  • How to redirect or replace your prescriptions
  • Replacing a lost Kaiser Permanente ID card. You can also access your Kaiser Permanente ID on your mobile app.

Eyeglasses and contact lenses

Our vision centers will replace contact lenses or the most recent pair of eyeglasses for Kaiser Permanente members who have experienced property loss due to the wildfires. You can search our list of vision center locations near you to set up an appointment or contact our eye care team online. Make sure to say that you’ve been affected by the wildfires in the comment box.

Replace lost medical equipment

If you need to replace a medical device, call the Southern California Durable Medical Equipment line at 1-855-805-7363 and let them know you’ve been affected by the wildfires.

Community support

Help with essential needs

The Kaiser Permanente Community Support HubTM can help members navigate and identify available community resources to meet basic needs like food and finances. To speak to a resource specialist, call 1-800-309-0353 Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Pacific time.

In affected areas, Kaiser Permanente is supporting our communities by offering clinical care and supplies at evacuation centers, providing respite to our first responders, and contributing financially to organizations that provide direct relief to impacted communities and first responders.

Additional community aid

Medical financial assistance

Our Medical Financial Assistance program provides financial help and relief for members who have been affected by the wildfires. We help qualified patients pay for emergency, urgent, or medically necessary care, as well as pharmacy services and products received from Kaiser Permanente providers or facilities. Patients who qualify get some or all of their costs covered regardless of whether they have health care coverage, or are uninsured, or are underinsured.

If you need this assistance, visit our “Help Paying Your Bills” page to see how you can:

American Red Cross resources

As a reminder, people can call 1-800-RED-CROSS (1-800-733-2767) for the latest shelter information and to access additional support. In addition to being a safe place to stay, Red Cross shelters can help folks with basic care items, mental health counseling, replacing medicines, or even help with pets.
