What is specialty care?

Specialty care is care from doctors with extensive training in specific areas of medicine. It includes treatment of injuries and ongoing conditions of all types. Examples include:

  • Cardiology
  • Obstetrics-gynecology
  • Oncology

How to schedule appointments

Most specialty care is by referral, so talk to your doctor to get connected. Some types of specialty care don’t require a referral, including obstetrics–gynecology and mental health.
