Where I practice
I am an internal medicine hospitalist. I hail from Southern California, but also spent time growing up in Dallas and Houston, Texas, before heading off to college in Boulder, Colorado, and medical school in St. Louis, Missouri. I chose to become a physician because of my interests in a diverse range of subjects — in the sciences as well as the humanities — and the fact that this profession can be a great place to blend those fields together. My professional interests include innovation and design thinking in hospital medicine, communication, patient safety, and patient/provider experience.
About my practice
As a hospitalist, I practice internal medicine exclusively inside the hospital for patients who are sick enough to need to spend the night. I diagnose and treat a wide range of diseases covering every organ system in the body. I am the patient's primary physician from admission to discharge, and I coordinate with a patient's primary care physician throughout their stay as well. I pride myself on providing excellent communication to my patients and their family while coordinating their care team, advocating for them, and providing the safest and most up-to-date evidence-based care possible.
How I thrive
I strongly believe that thriving as a physician requires all aspects of your life outside of medicine to be balanced and reinvigorating. To that end, I make it a point to focus on connecting with family and friends, getting outside, and eating well. Above all else, my life outside of medicine is focused on sustaining my biggest passion: skiing, preferably in deep powder. I also take time to recharge and renew my awe of the world around me via activities such as mindfulness/meditation, reading, and travel. I also love trying new things and am currently trying my hand at planting a vegetable garden and playing piano. One of my favorite things in Portland is KMHD Jazz Radio.
