About me
I remember when I first wondered what it would be like to be a doctor--in high school biology class. From that day on the dream has persisted, and I can't see myself as anything else. My journey in medicine started in the farm country of Iowa, took me to Creighton University School of Medicine in Nebraska, and finally brought me to Oregon. Now, after more than 20 years in the Northwest, I can officially call myself a local.
About my practice
I'm a hospitalist. That means I take care of members in the hospital, both to provide their medical care and coordinate the care they receive from specialists. If you are my patient I hope you experience a quality of care that is superior to all other options, and also feel safe and informed with regular updates. When you go home, I want you to feel confident that I have coordinated the after-hospital care well. You should have a complete and accurate medicine list, follow-up tests outlined, follow-up appointments made, and information sent to your Family Medicine doctor. I'm also a physician leader in our Sunnyside Medical Center. If you are a member in any area of the hospital, I want you to experience 5-star care. I want to promote work flows that keep health care affordable for you. Finally, I want you to get the unspoken sense that those caring for you love their jobs and feel called to make a difference by the work they do.
How I thrive
Daily fulfillment comes from relationships. My members' life stories give depth to my work on a daily basis, and my relationships with co-workers give me great satisfaction. Living well outside of work means a mix of activities for me. Some days you’ll find me hiking, and other days I’ll be at the beach or golfing. I love to work around the yard and recline by the fireplace with a good history book. I have been bitten by the travel bug, and once a year I like to take my family someplace new and learn all about it. At the same time, I enjoy unplanned time at home, being a dad and husband.
