About me
Having been born, raised, and educated in the Pacific Northwest, it was a pleasure to return "home" with my family to Portland in 2008. I have been practicing with Kaiser Permanente Northwest since that time and have found it to be an incredible place to give and receive care. I am honored to serve this medical group as Chair of the Northwest Permanente Board of Directors. I grew up in Bothell, Washington, and was the first person on either side of my family to graduate from college. I met my husband, who is also a Kaiser Permanente physician, when we were in medical school at the University of Washington. We trained in Denver, where I completed my internal medicine residency, served as a chief medical resident, and then completed my fellowship in pulmonary and critical care medicine in 2008.
About my practice
Being a KP physician means I am able to do the right thing for my patients in a comprehensive and coordinated system. I am convinced we deliver the highest-quality care possible, and I deeply appreciate the autonomy I have to choose the right care at the right time for my patients. I practice both inpatient and outpatient medicine in pulmonary and critical care subspecialties. I have specialized training and knowledge in the areas of pulmonary hypertension (PH), bronchiectasis, and non-tuberculous mycobacterial infections. I also am trained in the use of endobronchial ultrasound and use this evolving technology to assist with bronchoscopic biopsies.
How I thrive
We have two fabulous children, and our family maintains an active and adventurous lifestyle. I make time to run, ski, camp, hike, cook, sail, read, and go for long walks in Forest Park with our family dog. We are dedicated travelers, enjoying the perspective we gain by spending time internationally. I am engaged in local politics from the school board to the state level and work to help my children understand that we have a responsibility to make our community a stronger one with the way we serve. I am proud to have played an instrumental role in guiding Northwest Permanente toward becoming the world's first physician group to gain certification as a B Corporation! I couldn't be happier to be here, and I look forward to many more adventures in the Northwest, both personally and professionally.
