Where I practice
I grew up in Idaho and have lived in Oregon for over 15 years. I love the outdoors and Pacific Northwest beauty. It's a pleasure to care for patients in the Neurosurgery Department. I have practiced in Portland as a physician assistant (PA) since 2004 working in surgical specialties including trauma, cardiothoracic surgery and urology, but found my passion in neurosurgery. I graduated from Pacific University in 2001 with a bachelor of science in biology and received my graduate studies in PA from Cornell's Medical School Program in New York City in 2003.
About my practice
I enjoy assisting surgery and working with the neurosurgical team. I also round in the hospital and see patients in clinic for postoperative care and consultations. My approach to patient care focuses on education and empowerment. I look at patient health as an integrated whole and try to help members feel in control of their health. When someone approaches surgery there are often lots of questions and concerns and my goal is to address those, put patients at ease and keep them safe. I have a special interest in pain management and enjoy discussing ways to reduce pain, including the mind body connection. I believe in utilizing all available tools to help patients recover surgery successfully. If non-surgical options or minimally invasive procedures exist, I am happy to offer these as well.
How I thrive
I try to get fresh air, exercise, try something new and find something to be grateful for daily. I enjoy dance, playing the guitar and keyboard and getting outside. I love studying the ancient practice of yoga and plan on doing this for a lifetime.
