Where I practice
I was born and raised in Colorado and came to Portland to train in neurosurgery at Oregon Health & Science University. I knew I wanted to be a brain surgeon at an early age and have never regretted the decision. I like working with people as much as with my hands and so found neurosurgery to be a perfect fit.
About my practice
I have enjoyed a general neurosurgical practice for many years. My current practice incorporates all areas of spine surgery, and I have particular interest and expertise in open cerebrovascular surgery, skull base surgery, and endoscopic surgery. I am fortunate to work with a team of excellent specialists to deliver top-notch care. I work closely with sinus specialists to treat pituitary tumors, a neuro-otologist to treat acoustic neuromas, and an interventional neuro-radiologist to treat aneurysms and arteriovenous malformations of the brain and spine. Philosophically, my goal is to educate people to help them make their own decisions about surgical care. Members, given information and options, are in a much better position to determine the care they want, and I am glad to be part of an organization that embraces this mentality.
How I thrive
Having grown up in the high mountain desert of the Front Range, I have a great love for the outdoors. I feel privileged to live in Oregon and enjoy our mountains, beaches, and rivers. My wonderful wife and 2 young boys share the same interests, and we take our vacations camping, fishing, skiing, and beach-combing together. While my wife and I share many additional interests, we have put these on hold while we spend all of our spare time with our children. I ride my bicycle to work as often as possible and feel rejuvenated spending time in the outdoors.
