Where I practice
I was born in New York City and grew up in South Florida. I was fortunate to train in California, where I fell in love with the West Coast. I am a husband as well as the proud father/stepfather of three children. I chose to follow in my father’s and grandfather’s footsteps and practice medicine. I witnessed firsthand the special relationship my father and grandfather had with their patients and the impact both had on the lives of others (and vice versa). I consider the practice of medicine to be both an honor and a true privilege.
About my practice
I am a neurosurgeon, with a particular interest in disorders of the spine. I treat patients with spinal conditions due to degenerative processes (arthritis), tumors, infection, and trauma. I see the role of surgery as one step in a process of healing and well-being. I guide and council patients on the best approaches to their specific problems, but I always hold the patient’s opinion or wishes at the forefront of discussion. I appreciate the team-centric approach afforded by Kaiser Permanente, one in which partners in our department can confer and collaborate in the best interest of the patient. In addition, this collaboration can take place among the various disciplines of medicine (physical therapy, pain management, etc.) to ensure the best outcomes for our patients.
How I thrive
Outside of the practice of medicine, I am an avid sports fan, particularly of college athletics (I’m a former college lacrosse and rugby player) and sailing. I get the most pleasure in participating in my kids’ outside activities such as dance; I have become a proud dance dad. In addition, I have a passion for American and European history, which often leads me to various bookstores to explore.
