About me

As early as age 5, I knew that I had a calling to care for and serve people. I played doctor with a white coat and toy stethoscope and fantasized about caring for people by healing them. With the help, support, and encouragement of caring parents, I worked my way through the educational prerequisites, and in 1985 I was admitted to the University of Benin Medical School, in Nigeria, and graduated at the top of my class in 1991. While there, I became interested in exploring the unparalleled research and medical advancements in North America, an opportunity that arose for me when I was accepted to do an externship at the University of Calgary, Alberta, Canada, in the late '80s. I thoroughly enjoyed my experience, and my wonderful and welcoming Canadian colleagues there encouraged me to return to North America after my graduation. I did return to Canada and subsequently the United States, following a mandatory yearlong post-graduation internship at the Eko Hospital in Lagos, Nigeria. During that internship, I found I enjoyed caring for patients of different ages and looked forward to dealing with a wide spectrum of medical conditions rather than one specific area. As a result, once in the United States, I was accepted and undertook my family practice residency training at the renowned Cook County Hospital in Chicago from 1996 to 1999. My experience there prepared me for life as a physician and fostered my resolve that the best way to care for and serve people was to work as a family care physician. In the decades I have been a practicing family physician in the United States, I have thoroughly enjoyed caring for and serving the various communities around our great country, and I look forward to many more rewarding years of practice.

About my practice

I aim to create an atmosphere where my patients always feel relaxed. This is partly why I do not wear a white coat. I want my patients to feel free to share all the details of their condition, which is vital to diagnosis, treatment, and care. My ultimate goal is to deliver the best medical care possible, and I understand that to do that the patient should be made to appreciate that it’s a team effort and that they have a significant role to play in identifying the problem and ensuring continuing and appropriate care. To this end, I believe in the importance of counseling about prevention being a much better option than cure. I also believe in the importance of early intervention in the management of disease processes. I encourage my patients to make an appointment to see me once medical issues arise and not wait until there are multiple issues and complications, which may make treatment more complex. I do offer some in-office procedures, and issue specialist referrals if indicated. There are many good reasons why I choose to expand my medical career at Kaiser Permanente, which sets the pace in advancements in modern medicine and is continuously creating change for the better.

How I thrive

I have dedicated the past few decades of my career as a physician serving families in medically underserved communities including Terrace, British Columbia; Pocatello, Idaho; Medical Lake, Washington, and for the past several years Salem, Oregon. Prior to joining Kaiser Permanente, I enjoyed caring for my patients at the Salem Clinic. I enjoy being a wife and the mother of five growing children. Hobbies include following up with the latest fashion trends, dancing Zumba, cultivating exotic rose plants, going for nature walks, biking with my family, and traveling to experience other cultures/traditions and foods.
