Where I practice
I was born in India, but I grew up in Chicago, and spent about 20 years at the University of Chicago (college, medical school, residency, and as a faculty member). During this time, I was fortunate to have many dedicated teachers who influenced my approach to learning. I chose to practice cancer medicine for the deep satisfaction one feels in helping people who are going through a very challenging period in their lives. I moved to Oregon in 2000 for the friendliness of the people here and the natural beauty of the Northwest. I am married and have a daughter.
About my practice
I am a radiation oncologist—a specialist who uses radiotherapy to treat various types of cancer. I treat common cancers, such as lung, breast, and prostate cancers, as well as less common cancers, such as head and neck cancer, benign brain tumors, and others. I have experience in such current technologies as intensity modulated radiotherapy, stereotactic radiotherapy (intracranial as well as extracranial), and prostate brachytherapy. I also treat many members who are receiving chemotherapy combined with radiotherapy. My approach is to try to get to know members as unique individuals, rather than as someone with cancer, and to personalize their treatment appropriately. I want members to know that their well-being, emotional as well as physical, is most important and that their goals matter to me. I also really like learning from my members what they did to help themselves during and after treatment.
How I thrive
I enjoy spending time with my family, sometimes attending services at our temple. I also like going for walks, practicing meditation, reading, and traveling. I love seeing the good that one can do in this world by developing compassion for others and carrying out activities in this frame of mind.
