About me

Biography

Originally from Las Vegas, NV, I pursued a basketball dream to Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN. I then spent time in the Midwest in neuroscience research (Wisconsin) and then medical school (Michigan) before shivering my way back west for orthopaedic surgery training. I spent 2 years in San Francisco, CA, and then joined OHSU's orthopaedic surgery residency. I had the honor of completing a fellowship in sports and shoulder surgery at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City before returning to Portland and beginning my practice at OHSU in 2014. In my first 11 years of practice, I put my sports training to use as I sought team coverage experiences at the Division 1 (Portland State University) and Olympic (Rio 2016, Olympic training center volunteer rotation) levels. I studied surgical education and developed expertise in patellofemoral problems in the knee, completing the ISAKOS Patellofemoral Traveling Fellowship and gaining membership in the International Patellofemoral Study Group. When Portland announced the return of its WNBA team, the Fire, I was eager to be part of that vision. I am delighted to be part of Kaiser Permanente, providing team physician coverage for both the Fire and the NWSL’s Portland Thorns.

About my practice

I am drawn to sports medicine by the belief that everyone is an athlete in their own way—from individuals competing at the highest levels of sport to those whose goal is simply to move through daily life without joint pain or instability. My clinical practice focuses on conditions of the knee and shoulder, with particular expertise in knee ligament and meniscal injuries, as well as shoulder instability and dislocations.

I find it deeply meaningful to guide patients through the challenges of injury and surgery and to support them as they regain confidence in their bodies. It is especially rewarding to see patients return not only to function, but sometimes to activities they may not have believed possible prior to treatment.

How I thrive

My husband and children are my very favorite people, and we have a truly amazing dog who I hope will live forever. The elaborate network of trails in the greater Portland area is my "happy place," and I take the dog for a hike and some fresh air whenever I can. We also love whisking the family off to the Oregon Coast, the Columbia River Gorge, Sauvie Island, or the mountains whenever we get a chance to play.
