About me
I am a family physician, and I moved to Oregon from the Midwest in 1996 for my residency training at OHSU. I was drawn to the area because of Oregon's commitment to full-scope family medicine, and its natural beauty and recreation opportunities. For many years I practiced obstetrics and hospital medicine in addition to my primary care practice. In 2004 I was honored to be named Oregon's Rural Health Practitioner of the Year. I went back to school and obtained a Master of Public Health Degree in 2007 from the University of Washington, which expanded my interest in health policy and community approaches to health. Since then, I have split my time between clinical work and advocacy work.
I believe health is comprised of physical, mental, emotional, and environmental factors. We all have individual responsibilities to make good choices for our health, but we also have a commitment to each other as a community and a society to ensure that everyone has the opportunity to achieve health. I enjoy working with individuals on their own health goals, and I will always advocate for systemic changes to advance everyone's health.
About my practice
I practiced primary care for 17 years, working for various Federally Qualified Health Centers (clinics whose mission is to care for uninsured and low-income families). I enjoyed primary care, but in 2019 I made the switch to the Urgent Care department at Kaiser, which has been an excellent fit for me. I enjoy the problem-solving aspect, where the clinician and patient work together to sort out symptoms and start on the path to recovery. I like treating minor injuries urgent concerns and being available on a same-day basis. I am holistic in my approach, and my primary care and public health training orient me toward prevention whenever possible. I have deep respect for my urgent care, primary care.
How I thrive
My commitment to my own well-being means I focus on excellent nutrition (plant-based diet), daily exercise, good sleep habits, and spending time doing things I love with people I care about. I also know that my dog is key to my happiness and health! I enjoy cooking, hiking, cross-country skiing, reading, and astronomy.
