Where I practice
I am a family physician, originally from Detroit, but when I came to the Pacific Northwest in 1996 for my residency training, I knew that this would definitely be my home. I love living near the mountains and rivers, and I enjoy learning about the natural landscape, the native plants, trees, animals, and birds. I enjoy hiking and cross-country skiing with my dog. I also enjoy food and cooking and have always had a particular interest in nutrition and how it relates to good health.
About my practice
I practiced full-range primary care for many years, including obstetrics and inpatient (hospital) care. While I really enjoyed primary care, I find that urgent care is an excellent fit for me at this point in my career. I love the problem-solving part of urgent care, where the clinician and the patient work together to sort out symptoms and get started on the path to recovery. I consider myself to be holistic in my approach, incorporating physical concerns with emotional, social, nutritional, and environmental factors to come up with the most accurate diagnosis. I have deep respect for my specialist colleagues, and I enjoy the collaborative relationship among primary care, urgent care, and specialty clinicians at Kaiser Permanente.
How I thrive
My commitment to my own well-being means I focus on excellent nutrition, lots of exercise, good sleep habits, and spending time doing things I love with people I care about. I also know that for me (and many other people) having a dog is key to my emotional well-being. Animals are a powerful source of love, companionship, and fun. I volunteer frequently at first-aid stations at events, and contribute to my community by being an advocate for social justice and a dedicated litter-picker-upper!
