Where I practice
I am a native Texan, but I came to the Pacific Northwest as soon as I could. After medical school in Houston, I spent one year in Seattle, then settled in Southwest Portland with my wife and 2 kids. I completed my ophthalmology residency at Casey Eye Institute, then stayed on for a glaucoma fellowship at both Devers Eye Institute and Casey Eye Institute. During these years of training, I won 3 research awards, was given a prestigious Heed Fellowship, and authored 2 patents concerning ophthalmic medical devices. I was drawn to the practice of ophthalmology because a close family member went blind when I was very young. Now I consider it an honor to dedicate my professional life to preserving and restoring the precious gift of sight.
About my practice
I practice comprehensive ophthalmology but also have additional fellowship training in the medical and surgical treatment of glaucoma. The field of glaucoma surgery is rapidly evolving, and I take pride in being able to offer a variety of newer treatment options, including MicroPulse diode laser and minimally invasive glaucoma surgeries (MIGS). My goal is to provide each patient with education about their eye condition(s), as well as potential treatment options. Only then will patients be in a position to make a truly informed decision about their own care.
How I thrive
Family is what makes me thrive. My wife and 2 kids make every day exciting. We also have a rescue dog that is getting along in years but is still young at heart. I stay active by playing soccer twice a week, and I try to keep up with the Timbers and the English Premiere League.
