Where I practice
I am originally from the Chicago, IL area and completed medical school and residency training around the Chicago, IL and Detroit, MI areas. After residency I started practice as a true general surgeon in a more rural setting in Northern Illinois. Over time and after completing many cases in training and practice, I realized that my true interest was surgical treatment of members with cancer. I then left my practice in Illinois to pursue surgical oncology fellowship. After the 2 year fellowship, my family and I moved to the Portland area.
About my practice
My philosophy is to offer the highest level of care to my members with cancer. I offer this same approach to all of my surgical members. My interests in surgical oncology include melanoma, sarcoma and soft tissue tumors, breast cancer, stomach cancer, pancreatic cancer and other gastrointestinal malignancies. As the surgical oncologist of our region, I care for many different types of cancer in members. Outside of my responsibilities in the operating room and clinic, I am active in teaching the Oregon Health and Sciences University surgical residents. I also participate on several of the cancer task forces dedicated to improvement of cancer care across the region, and am the acting physician lead of the breast cancer task force. Working at Kaiser Permanente allows me to offer superlative care to members and all aspects of cancer care with a multi-disciplinary team approach, and access to research protocols. It also gives me the ability to follow member’s long term to understand short and long term impact of treatment on members and their families.
How I thrive
I enjoy being with my family and doing outside activities including hiking, biking and gardening. I also play drums in both live and studio projects. I have played drums most of my life, in varied styles of music and with many different musicians. Finally, my family and I have come to enjoy the food scene here in Portland which is second to none.
