About me

I grew up in Houston, Texas, studied medicine in Dallas, Texas at UT Southwestern, and did residency in family medicine in Tucson, Arizona. I chose to be in medicine to play a part in health inequity, to be able to advocate for communities in need, to help educate people on how to improve their health, and to help people heal, not just be treated, and improve quality of life.

About my practice

I am a Family Medicine trained physician, meaning I take care of patients of all ages and genders. I was trained in adult inpatient and outpatient medicine, pediatric inpatient and outpatient, and obstetrics. I am currently being trained in Integrative Medicine through the Andrew Weil Center of Integrative Medicine and use this knowledge heavily in my practice. My philosophy in medicine is to work with the patient to help best achieve their desired health goals, that's including physical as well as mental and emotional. I believe that a person's physical health is determined by much more than just their physical self, but is also impacted by their mental health, lifestyle, environmental health, and much more. I treat all conditions that fall under the scope of family medicine, aside from inpatient pediatric and obstetric care. These include the most common conditions such as metabolic syndrome (hypertension, obesity, type II diabetes, hyperlipidemia, etc.), cardiovascular conditions (arrhythmias such as atrial fibrillation, congestive heart failure, patients on chronic blood thinners, etc.), renal conditions (chronic kidney disease), GI disorders (cirrhosis), pulmonary (asthma, COPD, etc.), dermatologic, neurologic, and many more. Because of my specialization in Integrative Medicine, I am also more well-prepared to treat certain conditions such as chronic pain disorders such as fibromyalgia, osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, migraine and chronic headache disorders, chronic pelvic pain, as well as chronic insomnia, irritable bowel disorders or other GI disorders labeled as irritable bowel syndrome, cancer supportive care, trauma-informed care, and many more. I also perform inpatient and outpatient procedures including contraceptive implants and IUDs, skin biopsies, certain excisions, shoulder and knee joint injections, trigger point injections, and more. I have worked extensively with low resource communities including new and established refugees, asylum seekers, and non-English speaking populations.

How I thrive

I am definitely one to keep myself busy. On a day-to-day, the things I need to keep myself going include going to the gym (either for weightlifting or doing Jiu Jitsu), a daily meditation of some sort, having some time outdoors whether it is walking my dog or sitting on the balcony, and sometimes a little bit of TV time. The most important things to me are my dog and my husband. I love gardening and taking care of my plants. I am also a formally trained painter and every now and then will start up a new painting (recently mostly in oil paints). During periods where I have more time off, I like to go hiking, mountain biking or indoor climbing. I love cooking, eating and trying new restaurants.
