You don’t have to let a busy work schedule get in the way of looking after your health. Kaiser Permanente has flexible options that enable you to get after-hours care when you need it.

To make the most of these services, be sure you have an online account and download the app. Then take advantage of these 5 convenient ways to manage your health and the health of your family.

Online and phone options to talk to a doctor or nurse anytime

Whether your need is urgent, or you’re not sure if your concerns are urgent, you can connect with a care team member. Here’s how:

  • Get Care Now. This 24/7 virtual service connects you to a clinician fast without an appointment. Sign into your account, answer questions online about what you’re feeling, and a clinician will call you back. You don’t have to sit on hold and wait for a response. Costs vary.1
  • 24/7 advice. Speak to a licensed medical professional anytime — no matter your work schedule — to find the right care for both urgent and minor conditions. Based on your conversation, the provider can give you self-care advice. Or they can tell you whether you might need immediate attention and recommend that you go to urgent care or the emergency room. Call 833-KP4-CARE or 1-833-574-2273 (TTY 711) to connect with this advice service at no cost.
  • E-visits. For less urgent matters, try an e-visit. Just complete an online form describing your health issue and upload photos, if you like. You’ll receive a response with next steps from a clinician usually within 2 hours. Bonus: There’s no cost for most plans.

Tools to help you stay on top of everyday needs

The Kaiser Permanente website and app can be powerful tools to help you stay on top of your health without disrupting your workday. Here are some of the services you can reach outside normal office hours:

  • Review your medical history. Check the app to keep tabs on basic health maintenance and preventive care — like whether your kids have the right vaccines for school or if you are due for any screening tests or lab work. Use your digital medical history to see if you have any health reminders.
  • Get tailored health goals. If you're experiencing a chronic issue like back pain or diabetes, or you're trying to quit vaping or manage your weight, you can get a plan to help you achieve your health goals. Take a Total Health Assessment online when it fits into your schedule. Then set up time to discuss the results with your care team so you can map out next steps that are right for you.
  • Take the guesswork out of medical costs. Try our cost estimator tool and check your benefits coverage before upcoming appointments or procedures. These tools help remove uncertainty about costs, and you may discover benefits and perks that you weren’t aware of.

Follow-up care services for easy next steps

When you’re busy, it’s easy to let follow-ups fall through the cracks. Here are ways you can make your next steps easier before and after work:

  • View your after-visit summary. Can’t remember everything your doctor tells you during a visit — like the exact name of the diagnosis or which vitamin to take? Click in the app to see notes from the appointment. You can securely message your care team with follow-up questions.
  • Get blood tests. Many Kaiser Permanente facilities are open before and after typical work hours. Go to a clinic, no appointment needed, to get a blood test your clinician has ordered. If you prefer, you can also schedule an appointment ahead of time.
  • Check test results. When you’re sitting in a parked car waiting for your kids or have a few minutes of downtime, you can go over your test results. Questions? Message your care team securely online anytime.

Online prescription refill options to avoid a trip to the pharmacy

No need to worry about prescriptions in the middle of your workday when you can easily manage refills and more with our online pharmacy services. Here’s how:

  • Easily order prescriptions. Save yourself a trip to the pharmacy and get most prescriptions delivered within a few days at no extra cost.2 Bonus: Track your order in the app.
  • Never forget a refill. Stay on top of your refills with reminders via text message, email, or app notifications. Personalize these settings and manage your medications any time of day.

Mental health support when it matters most

Your primary care team is trained to support mental health concerns. When you need help after hours, you’ll find support for everything from stress to mental health crises. Access any of these services whenever you need them:

  • Online mental health assessment. If you’re feeling down or anxious, consider starting with an online depression assessment. Kaiser Permanente also has virtual classes on a range of mental health and wellness topics.
  • Live remote coaching. Your plan may also give you access to live 24/7 emotional support coaching via the Headspace app.3 You’ll get one-on-one, text-based coaching and other self-care resources.
  • Mental health or addiction specialists. You don’t need a referral if you prefer to go directly to a Kaiser Permanente mental health or addiction medicine specialist, if appropriate. To make an appointment, call 1-833-KP-WITH-U or 1-833-579-4848 (TTY 711), Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Mental health crisis hotline 24/7. For urgent mental health advice, please call 1-800-900-3277 (TTY 711). Or call 988 for 24/7 care.
