About me

I would like to extend a warm welcome to you! My name is Dr. Win Naing, and I specialize in hospital medicine. It is my hope that after learning a little more about me from the description below, you will feel confident and comfortable with me as your physician. Being at the hospital is never anyone’s goal, but as your physician, I will do everything in my power for a positive outcome during your stay.

Biography

I was born and raised in Myanmar. While growing up, I really enjoyed computer engineering, but I realized that medicine would fit more with my personality and an unquenchable thirst to help people in need. My family was very supportive of my decision, so I applied to the Institute of Medicine, Mandalay in Myanmar to give medical training a try — and I loved it! Studying medicine in Myanmar allowed for a wide range of training in specialties. I trained in obstetrics/gynecology (ob/gyn), pediatrics, internal medicine, surgery, and many other subspecialties. Additionally, in Myanmar, medical care can be very expensive and must be paid for out-of-pocket because health insurance is not offered. As part of my medical training, I learned to be able to quickly and accurately diagnose a health condition, even if extended investigation through technology wasn’t an option. After graduation, I completed my residencies at Sao San Htun General Hospital for internal medicine and surgery and at Women and Children Hospital for ob/gyn and pediatrics. I practiced for a few years in Myanmar before deciding to immigrate to California to spread my wings. I then moved to New York for three years to complete my residency training in internal medicine at Mount Sinai School of Medicine. Practicing in a New York municipal hospital was an enriching experience because of the diversity in cases and patient demographics — New York is a melting pot for people of every race, age, socioeconomic background, and culture. After three years, I moved back to California, ultimately settling in Bakersfield for a hospitalist position at Adventist Health of Bakersfield in 2013. Beginning in 2016, I served as the associate medical director as well. While there, I was able to grow my program to better assist quality care and communication between specialists, hospitalists, and patients. After successfully developing/helping the program grow, I decided to join the Kaiser Permanente team for even greater challenges and opportunities.

About my practice

As a hospital physician, I want to develop a sense of trust and mutual respect between members, their loved ones, and myself. Through open and honest communication filled with facts and reasoning, I will explain the “why” behind the choices I make for positive health outcomes. I believe it is important for each member to have faith and trust in the advice I give and feel comfortable with any actions moving forward.

How I thrive

Spending time with my family helps center me. I have always been close to my family and enjoy every opportunity I get to spend time them. I also enjoy travelling — especially to new and culturally diverse locations I have never been before. Having grown up without a lot, travelling around the world really helps to keep me grounded and stay appreciative of what I have now. It also helps equip me with cultural competency for better member care.
