Where I practice
Hello! I hope that you will find the following information on my Web page useful. I may have the pleasure of caring for you or a family member if you need care in a skilled nursing facility.
My ancestors migrated to North America before the United States existed. They rapidly moved west and have been in what is now California for many generations. I was raised in Riverside and pursued my undergraduate education at UC Riverside. Medical school and residency training took me away for almost 20 years. I moved back not so much to return home, but for professional reasons. I had the opportunity to be part of the launch of the Kaiser Permanente Riverside Medical Center, and to help initiate the new family medicine residency program. My decision to go into medicine was made late in my education. At first, I’d intended to be a research biochemist, but my work as an athletic trainer during my undergraduate years led me into medicine.
About my practice
For the first 20 years of my medical practice I provided primary care to families. Since 2000, I have been providing care to Kaiser Permanente members in the nursing home and rehabilitation hospital settings. I serve a dual role—I am the primary physician for people who are no longer able to live in their own homes, and I provide or coordinate care for members who need short-term care in skilled nursing facilities.
How I thrive
My wife and I enjoy ballroom dancing, which allows us to have a shared hobby and get our cardiovascular exercise each week. I’m a professor at the UC Riverside School of Medicine. I am also a coordinator for a class taught in the second year of medical school. Teaching is my way of giving back to the medical profession. It helps keep my medical knowledge current and gives me a sense of purpose as I help to prepare the next generation of physicians. For an entertaining challenge, I started to learn magic a few years ago and am now a magician member of the Magic Castle in Los Angeles.
