About me

Welcome to my Web page! While meeting your doctor face to face is what I feel is most important, I hope you will be able to learn more about me and what I enjoy about my medical practice. Like any relationship, the more you can learn about your physician, the better you will be in choosing one.

I grew up in Northern California. I've wanted to be a doctor since I was five or six years old. I still have a drawing I did then, "When I grow up I want to be a doctor and make people happy." So I guess I was pre-med early on. And my handwriting hasn't changed much. In addition to being a doctor, I'm a husband and father of three boys. I've played soccer since I was eight years old through high school and college. Now I'm happy to coach my kids. Saturday mornings (game days) are one of my favorite times of the week.

About my practice

I chose family medicine for many reasons. I really enjoy taking care of both kids and adults. I try to be the kind of doctor that I would want, or that I'd trust with my family. I believe that quality care includes staying current with the science of medicine, but also with the art of dealing with each person as an individual. This includes taking time to listen to my patients, explaining to them what I think is going on, and involving my patients in our decision making. I treat patients like people instead of "medical problems" to be fixed. I really enjoy our new electronic health record system, as I believe it has made my ability to deliver high quality medical care easier.

How I thrive

I make regular exercise a priority in my life. My wife and I enjoy long distance running. I'm an avid soccer fan, coach, and player.. It's not easy, but finding a balance between my professional, academic, and personal life is what, I think, makes me better at each. Spending time with my wife and three boys brings me the greatest joy in life. We like to hike, play video games, camp and exercise as a family. Pretty much anything we do together is time well spent. I also enjoy reading and tend to work on three or four different books at the same time. It's important to "practice what you preach," and I strive to do just that.
