Where I practice
Welcome! I’m very happy to be a part of the Kaiser Permanente team, and I look forward to being your partner in taking care of your health.
I grew up in Tennessee and wanted to be a physician for almost as long as I can remember. The opportunity to help people maintain or regain their health, and to work with a medical team to solve complex problems has been a constant source of excitement and fulfillment for me. I’m fortunate to have a supportive family, including my wife and my two sons. I attended medical school in New Orleans at Tulane University, which, in addition to being a first-rate school, provided my wife and me with quite a life education in one of our country’s most interesting cities. I attended school on a Navy scholarship, pledging to serve in the Navy following graduation. I completed my residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Naval Hospital Oakland, and then completed a fellowship in gynecologic cancer at the University of Miami. After my retirement from the Navy, I joined the Kaiser Permanente team, prepared to care for women who have cancer.
About my practice
If I had to choose one word to describe my practice, it would be “teamwork.” My colleagues and I constantly discuss ways to care for members and work together in the operating room on complex surgical cases. Many of our surgical cases are performed using the robotic surgery system. We have a talented and resourceful team of nurses who are role models for compassionate care. Our physician colleagues in general surgery, medical oncology, radiation oncology, radiology, and internal medicine are available to assist when needed. We are also teachers—mentoring residents and fellows through our combined program with UC San Diego.
How I thrive
“Work hard and play hard,” is the motto I live by. In addition to my work as a physician, my two passions in life are music and physical fitness. I play guitar, fiddle, and mandolin, and my musical interests cover a lot of ground. To stay fit, I’m an amateur triathlete and enjoy swimming, cycling, and participating in races—from Olympic distance to full Ironman events. I also enjoy spending time with my family, snowboarding, snorkeling, reading, and going out to dinner and the movies.
