About me
Welcome! I often go by “Dr. O.” Thank you for the opportunity to share my professional background and a little about myself. Establishing trust and comfort with your physician is an important part of care, and I hope this page serves as a helpful introduction.
Biography
Originally from Phoenix, Arizona, I moved to San Antonio, Texas, to pursue my medical education at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, where I earned a dual degree in medicine and public health. During medical school, I developed strong interests in oncology, hematology, global health, and quality improvement.
I completed my internal medicine residency at Loma Linda University, where I continued to cultivate these interests. I was first introduced to Kaiser Permanente during my hematology/oncology fellowship in San Francisco, where I had the opportunity to advance care through quality improvement initiatives. Experiencing Kaiser Permanente’s approach to medicine inspired me to continue my professional journey within the organization.
About my practice
As a dedicated and detail-oriented physician, I approach member care with a strong work ethic and a commitment to quality. Guided by compassion and a deep sense of responsibility, I strive to provide thoughtful, personalized care for each member.
In addition to my clinical work, I help manage and guide the hematology and oncology clinical trials program at Kaiser Permanente in San Diego. I am committed to staying current with advances in oncology and hematology to ensure that members receive informed treatment options that are based on evidence and current research.
My Cancer Subspecialty Focus
My clinical focus includes the treatment of lung cancer, skin cancer, and breast cancer, as well as the care of members with benign and malignant hematologic disorders. I am dedicated to developing individualized treatment plans that incorporate the latest scientific advances while supporting each member’s goals and overall well-being.
Regional Expertise on Multidisciplinary Teams
I collaborate closely with teams of specialists in medical oncology, hematology, radiation oncology, pathology, surgery, and supportive care services. This approach ensures that members receive comprehensive care that is based on evidence and current research and that reflects national best practices.
Research and Clinical Trials
I am actively involved in advancing cancer care through clinical trials as part of the National Cancer Institute’s Community Oncology Research Program (NCORP). As a sub-investigator, I contribute to national research efforts through partnerships with leading cooperative oncology groups, including:
- SWOG Cancer Research Network
- National Surgical Adjuvant Breast and Bowel Project (NSABP)
- Alliance for Clinical Trials in Oncology
- NRG Oncology
Through these collaborations, I help bring innovative and promising therapies to patients in our community.
How I thrive
Outside of work, I strive to maintain a healthy and balanced lifestyle. I enjoy sharing healthy meals and exploring new restaurants with my husband and family. Staying active is important to me, and I regularly enjoy hiking, running, and practicing yoga.
I also value spending meaningful time with loved ones, especially during family celebrations and milestones. Reading a good book or watching a movie are some of my favorite ways to unwind and recharge. These activities help me stay grounded and bring renewed energy to my professional life.
