About me

Welcome to my Web page and the Urology Department at Kaiser Permanente in Orange County.

Biography

I grew up on Long Island but lived for 25 years in Palo Alto and San Francisco before moving to Orange County in 2001. In San Francisco, I worked with Kaiser Permanente as a staff urologist and chief of urology for 17 years. I chose the specialty of urology because I enjoy the variety it offers in the surgical and medical disciplines. I also noticed that urologists seemed to be among the happiest doctors (and often the funniest). My wife is a dermatologist in private practice, and we have three children.

About my practice

I practice general urology, which includes adult and pediatric urology, as well as oncology, endoscopic stone management, prosthesis implantation, and treatment of prostate obstruction. I am also an associate clinical professor of urology at UC Irvine School of Medicine. Like most of my colleagues, I am a member of the American Urological Association and its Western section. I also teach UC Irvine urology residents. Recently I published a large research study on a technique to prevent infections after prostate biopsies.

How I thrive

In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my family, playing classical piano, and sailing. In fact, I sailed on San Francisco Bay for 10 years before we moved down to Orange County. To keep fit, I try to run or swim every day and sometimes mountain bike. I also enjoy opera, but I especially like watching movies at home on the rare evenings that we're not driving one of our children to voice or piano lessons.
