Where I practice
Hi and welcome to my Web page. I went to school at the University of Colorado in Denver, finishing in 1973 with honors. I trained in internal medicine at UC San Diego.
I was raised in Tucson, Arizona, and trained in internal medicine at UC San Diego, finishing in 1977, with board certification in that specialty. I then went to work in the Emergency Department at Kaiser Permanente, becoming board certified in emergency medicine in 1986. I was assistant chief of the department for six years, and have been chief of the department for the last 10 years. I have been the regional chief of emergency medicine for the all of the Southern California Emergency Departments for the last four years. Even as a child, I always wanted to be a doctor, and I can't imagine a more stimulating satisfying profession- I consider it a great privilege to practice medicine. I am married and have three children, the youngest still in high school. I enjoy playing tennis and softball, which I do once a week with my three sons.
About my practice
I practice in the Emergency Department at the San Diego Medical Center, with occasional shifts at the two intermediate care centers in San Diego. I work all different shifts, so you may run into me at any hour of the day.
How I thrive
Quality family time keeps me grounded-the more the better. Since I work around the clock, I have also found it extremely important to exercise. I try to eat nutritiously, which is made easier by the fact that my wife is a great cook.
